Super User bigbill Posted August 15, 2013 Super User Posted August 15, 2013 We are now at our wits end with the predators in ct. There multiplying at a very fast rate. I have a place in vt and I'm aware of my surroundings at all times. I also My family to be aware too. To trust the dog and read there body English and even my cats too they will let you know when danger is present. One of my cats is a living smoke alarm. He sounded off as the wood stove backed up with smoke. My other three slightly tamed feral cats there heads are turning 360 degrees when a predator or danger is nearby. My dog has a different bark when something is wrong. Sunday afternoon my wife's girlfriend was headed down our street when a black bear the size of our kitchen table ran from the water shed land across the street into a rural populated area a few houses down from me. I believed her. Just last night in ct; My dog ran to my peach trees it's the first time we have peaches since planting them. These trees are on the left side of my land. My wife noticed a bear was in the back of the peach trees towards my rear border of the water shed land. She screamed for the dog as he approached the bear when he finally seen it after smelling it. This bear I estimate to be between 350 to 400lbs. It's that big and as long as my kitchen table. I noticed my pear trees are missing pears for the first time too. I have Apple trees too. I figure this bear is new to the area because my blueberries weren't touched in the spring. I stopped feeding the deer during the winter two years ago when I seen bear tracks that spring. Now I'm glad I did. My three feral cats were in higher spots sitting looking at the bear. But we don't hunt predators in ct yet. There is no open season. Now I worry about fishing at 3:30am. In the wilds. Bill Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted August 15, 2013 Super User Posted August 15, 2013 Don't mess with their cubs and black bears are more scared of you then you are of them or even your dog. When I dated this girl from PA she used to freak out when bear were in her yard. I used to go out and look at them some times getting close like 30yds and just watch it eat the black berries in her yard. Quote
The Rooster Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 This is what I worry about here in KY. They've started releasing bears, wolves, cougars, and rattle snakes again here. They denied it for a while but after numerous sightings someone finally admitted it and told about the restock program to bring back native animals to the area. Hmm....lemme think. The last time native animals such as these were here with any real numbers, the only other people here were Indians and Daniel Boone who knew how to live with them. The common people of this generation haven't been raised around animals such as these and it's nothing but a bad idea to mix them now. I have the answer though. Some guys here who saw the release of the snakes waited until the truck left and then they took care of business with shotguns. I plan on something similar any time I see one of these animals. The key is don't brag about it after it's done. Just pop 'em and leave 'em layin'. This might be hard to do with a 400 pound bear but wolves and cougars won't be a problem. Quote

Mountain lions have been released here in NY dec denies it but my Inlaws neighbor has one on trail cam. Same thing went with bears just not released they are just spreading. Use to be only southern tier now there are probably 20 reports a year of spotting them probably more just don say anything. Personally I think this is great, people are scared of bear, mountain lions, coyotes heck even heard a fisherman talkin about swans the other week. The thing is these predators people are scared of attacking them or stealing the cat or dog out of the yard actually rarely rarely do that. They won't eat your pet unless there is a shortage of natural food sources usually. Now I mostly predator hunt I live for chasing coyotes and fox two animals people are worried about attacking I'd bear hunt too if it was legal along with bobcat. Coyotes run at the sight of a human and even a dog most the time now some will come into a dog of they think the dog is eating a meal but they run the dog off not attack and eat it. Bears same way I've encountered them well hunting coyotes they like other predators come looking for the dieing rabbit or deer I'm sounding like looking for a easy meal. Even when acting like a food source when they realize its a human they beat feet and are gone. Now messing with cubs/pups well then your retarded and you deserve the ass whooping any wild animal will put on you. I would love for dec to release more bears or even timber wolf animals that once roamed where I live won't hurt me none I would love to see them flourish again and maybe when my kids can hunt they will be populated enough to allow hunting for them. Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted August 15, 2013 Super User Posted August 15, 2013 According to the Alabama DCNR. There are only around 20 black bears in the state. Yet 6 of those 20 were found wandering around in neighborhoods in Jefferson county. I know that there is at least four different bears in the WMA near my house. So the other ten must fly around the state because I hear of tons of sightings every year. Go figure. Coyotes are all over the dang state as well. So much so that there is no season on them. Got about 10 or so living in my parents neighborhood. We think they got three of the neighbors cats. As for the bears. Just do like they did on South Park. Yell "Its coming right for us!", then put a hole through it. 1 Quote
Super User Root beer Posted August 15, 2013 Super User Posted August 15, 2013 I've been 10 yards from a black bear in the Smokies. Who cares. They'll leave you alone. Just don't feed 'em human food or allow them have easy rewards to human garbage and they'll be taught to find other easier sources. This is the bear I saw: Quote

Super User bigbill Posted August 16, 2013 Author Super User Posted August 16, 2013 I keep my distance and let him eat my fruit on the trees. My dog has been barking tonight so I think it's back. I have five rounds of "00" loaded for home invaders weTher it's two legged or four. My ccw gun is a 41mag or 44mag. I really like the 41mag. 1 Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted August 16, 2013 Super User Posted August 16, 2013 Big bad high capacity glock totin raider is afraid of winnie the pooh and some snakes hahaha Says the man that's scared of spiders. I don't trust that yellow chubby bear. Something ain't right about him. I mean he gets lit on some honey laced with pcp, and starts hallucinating about hefalupms and woozles trying to steal his honey pots. And attacking him. That bear ain't right. As for snakes. They leave me alone I leave them alone. Some times they get done up even if they are leaving me alone. I ain't running from them by any means. However are snakes got rattles down here. Or nice bright white mouths. Either way its a bad ending if they get a hold of ya. So I choose to be proactive. My Grandpa always said there's only two types of snakes. A chicken snake and a rattle snake. If it ain't got a chicken in its mouth its a rattle snake. Shoot it. Quote

Bout the only critter I don't like is them centepedes they are just creepy not so much the little ones but the big ones freak me out. Quote

Super User bigbill Posted August 16, 2013 Author Super User Posted August 16, 2013 I hate spiders, any crawling insect, snakes too. But put me out in the wilds with God only knows what sounds and noises I hear I'm ok. Quote

I raised her from a spiderling. Im with you though on the crawling insects. Especially roaches. I can't stand those things. Or camel crickets. Ughhh. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted August 16, 2013 Super User Posted August 16, 2013 Root Beer, I fixed your picture. Lol yeah seems about right. If they had a season here I'd smoke em. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 18, 2013 Author Super User Posted August 18, 2013 Update, my bear has cleaned off my pear and Apple trees completely. The peaches are just about ripe. These are white peaches. There the same as regular peaches but less acid. There really sweet. This is the first year my pear and Apple trees had fruit. I planted more trees figuring I'd share them with the animals. Quote
