I know you guys hate these, but i caught what is in my fishing career a decent sized fish. Hit him on a manns -1, the pond he came out of is filled with spots so at first i thought it was a small spot. That is until he got about 10 yards from me. Then he really put his weight into it, and i realized he was much bigger.

( i know i know, dont lay the fish on the ground, but i was fishing alone and it was the only way i could snap a picture of him)

my shoe size is 12 if that helps. Please excuse the crocs, i had not planned on making any photo appearances.

If that fish is laying flat on the ground next to your foot then it's huge! I am going to guess that it was not fully flat and that the fish was 7 lb 6oz. Either way, great fish!

the head was probably about an inch off the ground

12" 1.4lbs

Do I win?

No, the only winner here is me.  :respect-059:

I have no clue how much the fish actually weighs.  I do know that i am placing an order for a scale as we speak. No more unknowns.

I say 3 lbs

Fish weights are hard for me to guess. Probably because I have little experience with big ones. Was out this weekend fishing a pond/lake and hooked a guy at night. Got him in and at glance and feel, guessed at 3#. Weighed the sucker and he was 2.12 He was even a decent length, although I did not measures him before release. At any rate, congrats on the nice fish! After I landed my pb and had to weigh him on my bathroom scale with me and then withme with him (like that's accurate), I bought myself a scale. They are cheap too!

I'll have to comment tomorrow. The Jack has me seeing things blurry.

sorry my arm was shaking from this holding this beast up for so long. I managed to hook him with like 5 out of the 6 hooks on both trebles.

I already placed the order for one. Now i just need to get me a girlfriend to take pictures of me holding these beasts. Unfortunately buying one of those is largely frowned upon here.

I solved the picture problem with a Galaxy S3 that I can take selfies with. No girlfriend required!

On topic, might be a solid 4.

The initial purchase won't be the expensive part...

ive got an s4. I find its a real pain to try to hold the fish up next to my head while taking the shot plus anything of any size is nearly impossible to get the whole fish in.

I carry a small camcorder with which the screen can flip 180.

I can see myself before pushing a button or before the self timer goes off. I combine this with a mini tripods (on land) or monopod (attached to the boat). It works out very good. Only problem is this kind of camcorder is not very popular and I had a hard time buying replacement when I drop one in the water.

Anyhow, 20 inch, 4.5lbs is my guess.

I have a smart phone with me, but after taking many photos that are really not photo worthy, I prefer someone to snap it for me, fish on the ground does not do the fish justice.  I do not carry a scale,  fish weights aren't too important me except the occasional curiosity for an exceptional fish.  I have a rod mark which enables me to make a fairly good length guess I then use chart weight.

so far between all the guesses ( leaving out the 1lb guess) the average of the guesses  is 5lb. I can live with that.

Regardless of the number, its a nice fish. None of us will ever know the weight. You did the next best thing and ordered yourself a scale.

Me too. Blond with a big rack.

Alright guys my scale came in. Can someone tell me how to properly weigh the fish with out causing it any damage?  Do you have to find a hole in the mouth, or is it ok to slide it up the gill?
