CountBassula Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 They got a case up here in Jax a woman fired a warning shot from her gun at her husband(maybe ex husband) as he busted in and was coming at her there was documented physical abuse by him on her in the past. She is serving 20 or 25, stand your ground was used as her defense, and the judge didn't buy it. They are appealling, I feel bad for her she was just protecting her and her kids. But Derek is right, shoot to kill...dead men tell no tales.....But I don't own a gun, I tend to prefer big dogs LOL...good ol am bull and ain't nobody taking nothing from my yard or house. My old bulldog my buddy has, won't let no one in the house with out shaking their hand LOL not to hijack the thread, but it's not quite what happened. husband was outside; woman went back inside, where she was presumably safe, and then went back out to confront the hubby with a gun, and that's what got her in trouble. she didn't stand her ground, she left, got the gun, and then returned to the confrontation. that's a huge no no. now if he followed her inside and entered or attempted to enter illegally, she would have been justified in shooting. but you can't safely leave, grab your heat, go back to the danger, shoot, and then claim self defense and stand your ground. Fish_Whisperer it's unfortunate that you had that experience. Fortunately, the thieves were caught but I can understand the loss of the pics. I would take two things from the experience you encountered. 1. Have someone, that you know preferably, teach you how to back up your pics and contacts to an external source. 2. Pack light, when you bank fish. Carry a back pack or what I carry, Columbia fanny type pack. Carry the essential lures that are a must in your part of the world. Bank fishing can be extremely rewarding, but sadly, dangerous. People can be observing you while you are clueless, minding your own business fishing. I fish in urban canals a lot and I have to have eyes in the back of my head at all times. You never know who will approach you. Fortunately, for me so far, everyone who approaches me are friendly. agreen on a light backpack Lou! i got one a while ago from tackle warehouse: http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=18829116 it's enough to hold enough gear for day's worth of fishing with 2 rods; what i mean by that is that i can pack enough jigs and trailers plus hooks and plastics, or worms and frogs, etc, you get the idea. it fits very comfortably, has one large main compartment and two smaller ones where i keep "most used" lures for the day, digital scale, braid scissors, sun glasses, also on the sling i have attached pliers, flash light, measuring tape, and second set of smaller clamp on pliers. it's really the best setup had for fishing. it frees up my pants pockets for cell phone, cigarettes and back pocket for trash (cig buts and used up lures always go home with me and end up in trash ) EDIT TO ADD: oh yea, and it gives me freedom to have my hoodlom / gator pacifier in my front pants pocket too Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 15, 2013 Super User Posted August 15, 2013 Martin, that is a nice backpack. I just looked at it with the address you provided. Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted August 16, 2013 Super User Posted August 16, 2013 The four things I carry at all times while fishing: Wallet, knife, keys, and phone. It is not about theft so much as keeping safe. If I would set my tackle bag down and then fall down some rip rap all of my stuff would be in the bag. With everything on me I could call for help. Super User Sam Posted August 16, 2013 Super User Posted August 16, 2013 Fish, this is what will probably happen: The boys will go to juvi court and get balled out and put back on the street with a warning. and a few hours of community service. You will get back some of your property. The boys will laugh it off and be thankful for the liberal court system that lets the perps loose to pry on the public once again. Maybe these two punks will get a real judge who will put them away, but since it was only petty theft I doubt it. And you may never know their names or where they live. This is our current justice system - trying to rehab the little lovelies without regard to what they did or the impact on their victims. Quote

I'm sure they were near my age or above 18, but I can say with certainty that I am much harder than they are. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted August 17, 2013 Super User Posted August 17, 2013 I've found a gnarly biker beard and piffy tshirt to be a great deterrent. Something simple like "guns don't kill people, I Do." Or "I know violence isn't the answer. I got it wrong on purpose." Or for when fishing and hunting in the back woods, "I rape back" (it keeps the banjo pickers away. They tend to work well. I never have anyone come near my stuff while fishing. They also tend to stay way down the bank from me. 2 Quote

Fish_Whisperer Posted August 30, 2013 Author Posted August 30, 2013 UPDATE!!! So they got the one boy and arrested him. 18 and still in high school. Works at the local Ingles. Anyways, I talked to him and his parents over the phone, since he's never been in trouble before, i'm dropping the charges this afternoon when I meet with him and his parents on the condition that my fishing gear is brought with them, and $1000 to cover the phone and loss of pictures. I made a foolish mistake and stole from a neighbor when I was 16, and the circumstances basically worked out the same at this, I gave the man his item back and 100 dollars, and his yard was mowed for a year in exchange for dropping the charge. I am not gonna potentially ruin this boys future potential for a mistake he's owned up to. As for the other boy, his parents have been called and they are gonna go in to split the costs, he doesn't work so mommy and daddy gonna pay his side out. Gotta hand it to the arrested boy, he called me in person and apologized. I laid into his ass lol, went all army drill sergeant father mode on him. "You oughta be thankful to have a mama that gives a **** to post your bail, after shaming her the way you have!" "You think you feel bad? How you think she feels knowin she raised a ****in thief?" 2 Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Glad to hear it's all coming out and going to work out. Growing up in Westminster, I never really had a problem with theft. Heck, my dad, to this day, leaves his house unlocked and sometimes the front door open when he does to town. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted August 31, 2013 Super User Posted August 31, 2013 Ill bet he doesn't do it again. Thats awfully cool of you. I'm also impressed to see that the parents seem to give a dang. As for the other boy. I dunno. I think I would ask for him to mow my yard like you had to do. To quote Dennis Leary, "Nothing is better therapy then mowing the yard while crying." 1 Quote

Glad you choose to drop the charges and that the parents of these "punk kids" stepped up to the plate. We had a similar occurrence in my neighborhood that involved vandalism that would have been a felony arrest with some teenagers and some people wanted to press charges, but a felony charge especially at that age will ruin their life sending them down a bad road in life. Thanks for reinforcing my decision. Being closer to their age I can remember that at that age one tends not to weigh the consequences of things before they act. The shi**in thing is that I think the police arrested the wrong guy. Hear me out before anyone jumps on me though! I know I know, either one of them could've stopped each other and shouldve both been charged, but here are the circumstances...(for this purpose, the one arrested is guy1, other boy is guy2) 1: The tag number I got belonged to the guy1; I had no other way to identify guy2 other than by facial recognition, and since the investigator had no clues to determine who he was, he wasn't able to make a photo lineup set for him. 2: My fishing gear was in the possession of the guy2. 3: Guy1 has taken the fall for his "friend", accepting complete responsibility and blame. In my mind, I feel like guy2 was the leader, and guy1 followed and went along with his friend, and now guy1 is paying for both their mistakes since there was no way to id both of them to make the double arrest. I have no info on guy2 as far as criminal history and such, but guy1 has never been in any trouble, works after school and on weekends, goes to church, and I got the vibe from him that he really is a decent boy that let himself get dragged into trouble by his "friend" who won't stand side by side with him when s**t gets thick. bass_masster Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Two things: 1) You have an S4, install something like Dropbox and setup the auto camera upload feature. If you ever lose your phone your photos are backed up to Dropbox. Box.com is similar and offers 50GB of storage, and Copy.com offers 15GB of storage with auto upload features. Enough to keep all you photos online. 2) If you have a recent Android phone, go to Settings->Security->Phone Administrators, and you should see something called Android Device Manager. Make sure this is checked off. Now if you lose your phone or have it stolen, you can remotely wipe it, lock it, wipe SD strorage, track it, etc., by logging into Android Device Manager via your PC. If you're more advanced and rooted your phone you can install something like Cerberus for even more features. Quote
