Some Good News Today (Theft Involved)

A couple weeks ago I was fishing near my favorite hole, and left the bank to walk bout 15 yards into the water .   I used to carry a shimano tackle bag, holding 4 utility boxes full of lures and a space full of bout 100 bags of plastics.  Since I was going in the water I went ahead and put my wallet and brand new galaxy s4 phone in it , and while fishing, seen two young guys making off with my gear.  I tried to catch up, but no luck, gotta tag number though.

 

An hour ago the detective came by and I was able to positively id them in a photo lineup.  i valued the gear at 500 easily, and the phone priceless, as it held a memory card of the majority of my 1 yr old daughters pictures.  They really wiped me out, and since then I have bought one utility box and stocked with jig heads,  t-rig hooks and a small array of grubs, tubes, and a few swimbaits and worms.

 

Through my years of fishing, I have learned that tackle comes and goes, but I'll only have those pictures in my memory until they fade away one day.  Boys had never been arrested (just hadn't been caught yet the detective said) and what they thought was just some fishing equipment turned out to be a big chunk of my life.  600 dollar phone  added with the tackle and these boys have committed a felony.  

 

But at least the law got em.

That is what is suppose to happen.  You cant arrest individuals just on hear say wouldn't you need to find the items they stole before they put them in a line up?

 

I could not like you mddrew and tell the police that your car stole my things and then they arrest you I point you out and make up a list of stuff you stole lol.

 

But I'd imagine that since there was a line up that the police did recover his property.  If that is the case he will get it all back once the legal process plays itself out.

 

 

Fish Whisperer I know the feeling of the pictures.  My wife gave birth last june and I have a iphone.  All of our pictures from the pregnancy all the way up to New Years day were on my phone, I had like 2,200 pics.  I moved them from my phone to my laptop to free up more space on my iphone.  Long story short my computer crashed and we figured all of the pictures were gone! My wife was devastated.  Geek Squad was able to recover all my files on my computer THANK GOD.  SO I bought an external hard drive and put all of my stuff on their as well as icloud.  I agree with you that phones are priceless because we capture so many memories/moments on them.

icloud updates every time you add something to your phone I think. 

 

But just to make sure I regularly take the pics from my phone and put them on the storage device just incase the phone breaks. 

 

Another positive to the iphone is whenever you connect it to iTunes you can have the option where iTunes will back up your files.  I used my friends laptop one time and it backed it up to his computer.  My phone broke about a couple weeks later I was ticked that I lost all my stuff.  I plug into his comp and it asks me if I want to restore the content to my phone, I was confused.  Figured there is nothing on my phone now so let me see what happens. Did it and had all my pics, apps, music, even recent calls and text messages Technology is crazy.

that's what  I was wondering if they found the stuff or not.  But I'd imagine the cops would be able to find out what they did with you stuff, maybe not the tackle, wallet, and any cash but definitely the phone.  Its a smart phone and has GPS and a serial number.  You should check local pawn shops... but that's the police job figured they would have done that if they arrested the kids

there may be something similar for androids and other smartphones but that doesn't do you any good if those scum bag kids don't tell the police where your phone is

exactly. since my last android phone took a poop i enabled google+ pictures sync, since i also lost 500+ pics of my little kids like that, but never again. every pic i take now get's uploaded when the phone is charging...

it would come with me, always, and no, i would not use it to defend property. the headache that would come with firing at thieves that were not threatening my life would simply not be worth it and could probably land me in jail for a very long time here in FL... now in TX i hear you can shoot to defend property

that's the reason why I can't have a gun I don't think things through and am an emotional individual I would have shot to injure not kill, shoot em in the foot or butt cheek

and you would be doing mandatory 25-to-life under FL law (look up "use a gun and you're done" laws). it's something i though about for a VERY long time before i started to pack heat, and still to this day, having carried for 7 years now, i think about it very often. gun to defend life or limb ONLY. property can be replaced and is insured.

Those kids probably thought wow look how easy this is gonna be! This guy is in the water fishing and his stuff is on land no way we are getting caught. Too bad for them you are too fast and was able to get their license plate and there was a camera lol. These kids were not too bright if they didn't see a survalence camera I doubt it was hidden in a tree lol

sucks man i would be waiting for them to get out so i could give them a proper beating too lol.....and i live in south florida and all my cop friends say if you going to shoot someone make sure you kill them cause in court its your word vs theirs and dead people cant talk...a warning shot will land you in jail for many years

They got a case up here in Jax a woman fired a warning shot from her gun at her husband(maybe ex husband) as he busted in and was coming at her there was documented physical abuse by him on her in the past. She is serving 20 or 25, stand your ground was used as her defense, and the judge didn't buy it. They are appealling, I feel bad for her she was just protecting her and her kids. But Derek is right, shoot to kill...dead men tell no tales.....But I don't own a gun, I tend to prefer big dogs LOL...good ol am bull and ain't nobody taking nothing from my yard or house. My old bulldog my buddy has, won't let no one in the house with out shaking their hand LOL

Fish_Whisperer it's unfortunate that you had that experience. Fortunately, the thieves were caught but I can understand the loss of the pics. I would take two things from the experience you encountered. 1. Have someone,  that you know preferably, teach you how to back up your pics and contacts to an external source. 2. Pack light, when you bank fish. Carry a back pack or what I carry, Columbia fanny type pack. Carry the essential lures that are a must in your part of the world. Bank fishing can be extremely rewarding, but sadly, dangerous. People can be observing you while you are clueless, minding your own business fishing. I fish in urban canals a lot and I have to have eyes in the back of my head at all times. You never know who will approach you. Fortunately, for me so far, everyone who approaches me are friendly.
