Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 1, 2010 Super User Posted August 1, 2010 got 2 packs of the 5" stickbaits from bass pro shops last week or so and fished them the other day in a lake with clear water and was hugely dissapointed > . these things have NO action . they just fall straight as a board !!! no wiggle or shimmy , no nothing was wondering if any of you guys/gals have the same experience with this bait . i am considering throwing these in the trash ( the BPS is about an hour and a half away and i don't see going there anytime soon to exchange them) and going back to Strike Kings Ocho's , they are the best stickbaits , on par with Senkos i have found . i thought the slurpies stick bait would work but obviously not :-/ Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted August 1, 2010 Super User Posted August 1, 2010 I'm a big fan of the Northland Pro Series spinner baits, but wouldn't give you plug nickel for their soft plastics. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted August 1, 2010 Super User Posted August 1, 2010 I've been having some success using these baits. I don't care if they have a whole lot of action or not, hasn't been an issue. I've been fishing they Bubba Dropshot style, i.e. flippin stick, 20 lb. fluorocabon, 1/2 ounce dropshot weight, 4/0 hook. I've got the bait t-rigged with a 5" to 10" drop leader. Throw it out (preferably into or very near gnarly cover) drop to the bottom - semi-tight line - quiver it for 5 to 10 seconds - drag a little bit and then repeat. Should it get stuck, quiver and try to make it dance for 20 or 30 seconds before you try to get it back. If the bait is stuck, you''re screwed, you have to break it off. Much more often than not, it is the weight and it is just lodged, not totally stuck. Dancing the bait 6" off whatever it is lodged on is more often than not when you get bit. So, back to the point, I don't care what action the bait has, I can give it all the action it needs. I think they come in some pretty neat colors, expecially the bluegill color and the purple python color is a great murky water color. The fact that they are made out of a thicker, sturdier plastic is a bonus when you use them like I'm using them. I can't speak to using them weightless or wacky rigged. I know this post got a little long - anyway thanks for reading. Quote
Stasher1 Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I've never used their stick baits, but their 4" hook-tail ringworm is my most productive soft plastic, by far. I buy at least one pack (usually two or three) every time I run by BPS, which is fairly often. As a matter of fact, I just got back from Kentucky Lake where I wore them out all week on the 4" Slurpies ringworm and Berkley Power Shaky Worms. I brought a foot locker full of different lures, but never had a reason to switch. Quote

Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted August 2, 2010 Super User Posted August 2, 2010 Least your not coming on here swearing that they are just as good as the originals but half the price :-X Quote
Vinny Chase Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Personally, i never use anything that has the northland name on it...have just never had luck with anything they have made. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 2, 2010 Author Super User Posted August 2, 2010 Least your not coming on here swearing that they are just as good as the originals but half the price :-X they should of been in a $.50 bin ;D i usually don't buy soft plastics on a whim , just stick to what i know works but maybe try different colors . as far as a stick bait that works as good as the original Senko , the closest i found is the strike king ocho's that i originally said in the post . some times it is better to pay the 2-3 bucks a pack more for a good bait !!!! :-/ Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted August 2, 2010 Super User Posted August 2, 2010 The ringworm from Northland is a great lure and their only plastic that I have tried. Quote

detroit1 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I can't get through their catalog! Every single sentence ends with a ! It drives me nuts! Those of you that have seen one knows what i'm talking about! How can they print that thing without noticing!Stop it! Stop it now! See how ridiculus this is! Dang!!! Quote
timothy_spain Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Their gumball jigheads are crap. The hooks bend and break too easily. Even the Pro Series. I bought a pack of their Slurpies Dip Stick and on my second cast I had a fish on. I went home after that and haven't had the chance to try them since the past weekend. Quote
