loudcherokee Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 In considering the Lews Tourney Pro as my next reel, the only thing I cant get past is the color. I know it doesnt matter to some- as long as the reel functions correctly its fine, but I do like my reels to look nice. That green just doesnt go with anything in my rod choices. Has anyone ever painted their reel side plates successfully? What kind of paint did you use? Im thinking of cerakote or durKote, which I've used for firearms, and is available in both spray on and bake on finishes, but im not sure what will stick best, or if a laquer based paint will hold up to usage. All the ones I've seen are an ugly green color, for the tourney pros anyways. My mg is black, the bb1 is black, and the team pro (drool drool drool) is a shiny black carbon type color. I think the super duty is black too. LC Quote
21farms Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 i had two of the tournament pros...they're not green. rather, they are a charcoal color. the TP's sideplates are not aluminum (some sort of plastic or graphite composite) so i don't know how well they'd take to baking. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 14, 2013 Super User Posted August 14, 2013 If I was going to repaint anything I would use the brownells aluma-Hyde II it's a epoxy paint in s rattle can. First the prep is very important too. I usually heat the area I want to paint with a hair dryer or leave it in the hot sun so it gets the surface warm. Then shoot it with one coat applied even. Then leave it out in the sun to harden. I spray the plastic gun stocks and gun metal and it's holding up awesome. I'm sure it will work on reels too. The colors are limited but it's the best epoxy I have used so far. I do clear coat the gun stocks. That's a nice looking reel. Quote

Duly noted. got plenty of fine line tape and masking materials from another hobby I can use if I decide to undertake the task. The pictures ive seen online make it appear green, but the pic above makes it look like a nice carbon black color. If that's the case, no need to paint as it will match a carbonlite or *** black rod perfectly. LC Quote

Some pictures appear greenish to me, others appear black. I coulda swore the one I looked at in Gander Mountain had a green hue to it. Kevin22 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 That is the same picture that is posted above. It looks flat black to me. Your monitor settings might be off. Of course I'm using a HD TV as a monitor so the colors are a bit different than a "normal" computer screen. Quote
