PABASS Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Hello, Went frog fishing on Sunday and sadly for my frog the bass loved it. Something a bit different I am curious to see what everyone's thoughts are on how long this bass is, I measured so I know and have an idea of the weight but that's not really important I want to start a fun post, who doesn't like guessing games? I will say that this was the thickest lilly pads that I have ever fished, using a stradic reel/St Croix Premier Rod with 10# NanoFill and wow could I cast this frog. 2 Quote

Brian6428 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 As to how long the bass is, it is very difficult to tell. There is no real frame of reference, but my guess would be anywhere between 13 and 18 inches. Brian Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 14, 2013 Super User Posted August 14, 2013 Looks little I would say 15-16 incher. Quote
5dollarsplash Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I'll go short, 14" you've got tiny hands..... Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 17.5" , 2.5 lbs Here is a pic of a fish I caught earlier this year that was a little over 2.5lbs... Kinda a similar angle... Quote

PABASS Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 Wow some really good guesses, personally if I saw that pic would guess maybe 16-17, but she was 20" she was over the 4# mark. The problem is like some have mentioned no reference point however I am holding her out as far as I can which I normally do in shots and she barely fits in the frame. The only give away is her eye notice how big they are, but your right I could have small hands, but in this case I do not have small hands. Also at this angle it appears that my hands could not fit in her mouth but I had my whole hand in her mouth because she swallowed my frog. Best fighting fish I have ever had, I cant recall how she hit it was that fast but I knew she was big, I never really struggled with a bass before but the amount of weeds she had me caught up in was a mess, however once she broke free and it was still allot of weight I knew she was really big. My largest fish ever in this lake and my second largest fish of the year. Its hard to tell in the photo but about 40 yards out there is a small hole and that is where 3 other fish came from including this girl. What a fun day but sadly I lost my frog .. 1 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 14, 2013 Super User Posted August 14, 2013 Wow, 20 inches. I was way off. Either way, great catch. Frogs can be replaced. Quote
jignfule Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Congrats, especially froggin with nanofil. Quote
PABASS Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 Yes Nanofill has some downsides but it really cut through the lillys well and it can handle some big fish at least around here. There is no way in this tight spot could I have used my other frog setup, plus this was a trip to my parents and only had room for a single rod/reel so it had to be versatile. Fished the spot again few days later and four fish hit but only landed one due to using another brand frog. This spot is great and little did I know is that you cant take any flotation device back in this area its not allowed in this lake. If a canoe was allowed in this area I would bet money you would find a 7-8#, I have seen them jump. I did wade this time but its so muddy I sink and really hard to access the area my legs got all tore up from sticker bushes.. Quote
