Zach Dunham Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Was just up at the St. Lawrence River this past Wednesday-Sunday for the Elite Series tournament as a marshal. What a great 3 days on the water. Drop shotting is probably the thing I am worst at so I hoped to learn a lot here. Day 1 I was with Chris Zaldain. He decided to fish the river and not make the insanely long run to Lake Ontario. He had 14 something the day I was with him but in subsequent days he did make the run and caught a much bigger bag afterward. Super nice guy. I learned a lot about the drop shot from him. Day 2 I was with Jared Miller. Definitely was the most fun guy to be out with. We made a 90 mile run each way to the Duck Islands on Lake Ontario. I was sore after this day, lol. Again, I learned even more about the drop shot from watching him. He did not place well in the tournament; just couldn't find the big ones. He still caught plenty, though. Day 3 I was with J Todd Tucker. Super nice guy, just not as talkative as the others. He used the tube a lot more than the drop shot. I learned a lot about boat positioning in the current from him though. He also stayed in the river. All in all it was a great experience. The Thousand Islands area is amazingly beautiful. If I was wealthy I would definitely have a summer home there. 1 Quote
Novafan71 Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Thanks for sharing this. I'm from PA but my family has had property in Waddington all of my life and we were up there for the tournament. It was awesome to see how the professionals approached the River. I thought about being a marshall for the tourney but since that was my only long vacation from work I didn't feel like spending 8 hours in a boat if I wasn't the one fishing. It's really crazy to see the size smallies they were reeling in - that size fish just did not exist on the river 5 years ago. Quote

Some of he pros can be nasty, depending if they are catching anything and where they are in the previous day's results. Nice to read you had three pros that were true professionals and good ambassadors of our sport. To have a small villa on The Thousand Islands go to college, get that degree, start a career, do well, save your money and one day your dream can come true. Of course, that is after you get married, raise a family, pay over $150,000 to educate each of your kids in college, buy a house, buy new furniture, buy your wife some jewelry for birthdays and anniversaries, step up from that Corvette to a van, invest in a $50,000 bass boat along with a $25,000 truck to pull it, start your own business, work 60 hours a week and keep that smile on your wife's face the entire time. Keep us posted on your progress on and off the water!!!! 1 Quote
