Super User lmbfisherman Posted August 13, 2013 Super User Posted August 13, 2013 That may be, but I would bet you a ton of money I can tell the difference in MY Chronarch E series and the Curado G series. I can tell a difference between the Curado E series and the Chronarch. I definitely agree I can tell the difference between the Chronarch E and Curado G. I'll also agree that I can tell the difference between my Chronarch and Curado E, but it still doesn't rule out the G and E feeling that much different. Just trying to figure out what point you were trying to make? I am in agreement overall the Chronarch is built almost the same, but the minor improvements when I fish them with the Curado E, I find the Chronarch smoother in performance. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 13, 2013 Super User Posted August 13, 2013 Another vote for the citica e or g.....i have both and they are both good reels and willl last for years and if you want you can upgrade during once of your yealry cleanings and get to pretty much the same performance level of a curado. Also think about how many hours you are working at 7.25 an hour for that difference in price. I do that myself when it comes to making decisions and it helps me to decide if it is worth that much more work. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted August 13, 2013 Super User Posted August 13, 2013 I wouldn't waste the money for the CuradoG, get the CiticaG, its almost the same reel and performance. Save your money for some baits, or future reel purchase. WHAT AM I HEARING!!! LMG, I didn't think you could shoot down ANY Shimano product. Surely you aren't slowly turning into a LEWSER..... lol Hootie Quote

CountBassula Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 i have both and wish i got 2 chronarchs instead for extra $40... Quote
Fishwhittler Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Curado G advantages over Citica G: Crankshaft bearing Larger handle knobs Slightly different spool brake hub Different cosmetics Does that warrant $30 over the Citica G? It depends on the angler. Personally, I don't think so. If you need a reel now, I'd go with a Citica D, E, or G. The E will be most similar to your Curado E and can be upgraded to Curado E specs if you really want. After the E I'd take the D, and then the G. I can tell you from firsthand experience that the D series was built better than the G. The G's are fine reels, but in my opinion a D or E series reel is still better. Any of them. Quote

Super User iabass8 Posted August 13, 2013 Super User Posted August 13, 2013 you're looking at spending roughly 160 for the current curado G. The labor day sales are roughly 2 weeks away and lots of sites(not all, but there are some) will run sales making the chronarch E the same price. Wait until then. If you can't wait and must have the reel now, know that the frame you will be holding is based on the same platform of the caenen (shape wise). if that reel is comfortable for you to hold then you won't have any issues with the reel. granted the mechanics of the reel aren't the same as the E series, calling the reel garbage or junk is ridiculous. I dont own any of them mostly because I prefer the 50 size platforms and the G and even E 200 series feel a little too bulk to me. The reel will last you for probably quite some time if taken care of properly. If you have a Dick's sporting goods around you, they discontinued the citicaG this past week and it can be had for 50$ if you can still find them...or if the same is even in your area. Quote

This is where the fact that I have a pretty stellar job and am gonna be working a bunch anyways, I just got hired at a golf course (I'm a better golfer than a fisherman) and I don't really mind working, to me the Chronarch is worth another 7 hours or so, and if my paycheck is short of the Chronarch by 50 bucks or so my dad will cover it and let me repay him the next check. I am absolutely set on golf stuff with 2 years of investment into a high end bag setup, I was given a sweet ass truck that needs nothing, and I spend pretty much every penny on fishing anyway. When I need tackle my dad lets me dig into his "pro shop" and select a few things to use. I have it pretty set but I am building my rod and reel collection now. Then comes the whole "saving for a boat" idea that will take over a year. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 13, 2013 Super User Posted August 13, 2013 Since when is 7.25 an hour a stellar job? lol you have a lot of growing up to do Get whatever makes you happy because in a week or so it will change.....that is how fishing gear goes for some people. Quote

But I don't bag groceries or ask someone if they want fries, working at a golf course is pretty stellar to me, rinse off carts, ride around in a range cart. Pretty cool to me. And I think it's stellar. P.S. I'm 16, if the fact that I think my job is pretty cool means I need to grow up then I don't want to. 2 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 14, 2013 Super User Posted August 14, 2013 so it is more stellar because you enjoy it...that i can totally understand. All I meant was......ahh never mind. Work as much as you want to buy your toys and enjoy them as much as you can. There is a reason it took me 12 years or so to graduate college.....with a bachelors degree. To many hobbies and places to go Quote
JD96 Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 All I meant is I don't know any 16 year olds making much more than Minimum wage without working for family or whatever. I'm happy I don't work at a grocery store or some crappy job.. But my dad worked as salesman at a Fishing/Hunting store growing up so I'll never have it as awesome as he did. He was 17 in charge of what to order who to order it from what's gonna get bit and such so he got some freebies when the reps came around. Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted August 14, 2013 Super User Posted August 14, 2013 There is no such thing as a crappy job if it pays the bills or feeds the family. I was taught very young that there are certain jobs that may not be pleasant but they nee to be done and to never look down on the people who do them because you never know if you will be that person one day. Sounds to me like the OP has a little bit of a silver spoon in his mouth but i digress.....back to your regularly scheduled programming. Quote
JD96 Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 When did I look down on anyone? I would not enjoy that job at all I love the outdoors and some don't like the heat or cold but I don't mind it. If I had a silver spoon in my mouth I wouldn't have looked for a job and APPLIED at a grocery store. Nor would I be thinking about a Curado, I would just buy a Core. For me working inside a grocery store or in retail would be miserable. Some enjoy that. Quote

FYI - why the other few posters who think you were looking down on the bagger and fries guy. Your post maybe interpreted that way is all. Better way of putting it would've been not saying anything at all. Your other posts kind of makes you come off that way too. But it really doesn't matter imo, we are talking about fishing. I don't want to talk about my 'job'.. 1 Quote
Capt.Bob Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 WOW,,,,I would have loved to have a Curado G7, when I was 16!!! With that said, I like the E7 better, The current Chronarch is same reels as the E7 Curado with only very minor differences. If you're on a budget you can pick up a Citica that will catch just as many fish as the other two. Whether or not the next model up is worth the money is really a personal preference. Shimano has a neat thing on the website that lets you compare models specs side by side. X3 spot on advice, just don't try Lew's Tournament Pro for about the same money,,,,,, your reel preferences might change! Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I only have 1, but its a Super Duty. Oh crap, cats out. Buy a Lew's tourney pro and you will sell all your shimanos! Quote
Capt.Bob Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I only have 1, but its a Super Duty. Oh crap, cats out. OOP'S THERE GOES ANOTHER ONE!!,,,, The posse is gett'n smaller all the time!! It's ok gambler, it aint a sweet smooth casting Team Gold or Team Pro, but one sweet flipp'n reel! Quote
Cgrinder Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 They really need to offer that Super Duty in LH retrieve. Frogging is killing my reels. That said, I'm loving the 50E Chronarch and the OP should get one. Or two. Hell, three. Quote

evobowhunter Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I like the e series over g so I would take the chronarch over the g series if I was buying a new reel. Quote
