i didnt want to take over an earlier thread so i am starting a new.

every time i go out i throw cranks 90% of the time and the other 10% of the time, i throw spinners and buzzbaits.  i'll try them for about 30 minutes in total and i NEVER get any swirls or hits.  NOTHING.  i hear that everyone has great success on these types of lures but i dont agree.

all my buzzbaits/spinners have the original skirts on them but i dont ever add any additional trailers to them.  should i?  i was walking my local BPS yesterday and decided to pick these up (see link below, white with red tip)).  can you use these for both spinners/buzzbaits?  what other trailers work great for spinners/buzz's?

I sometimes use what you have too in white or chartruese. But most of my success is using the mister twister split double tail grubs. In white or chartruese. With the white spinnerbait i use a 1/8oz small spinnerbait with a white skirt that has a tint of blue or purple in it. It changes color in the light from white to blue or purple. Then i use the split double tail for a trailer in white on the white spinnerbait. Then a shot of YUM shad and i'm good to go. I set up the chartruese spinnerbait the sameway with a chartruese split double tail trailer too. Again a shot of YUM shad and i'm off again. So far these two setups keep me busy sometimes. I have one spot were the smaller bass kill the white one. The split double tail looks like its really swimming in the water.

I really like the Mann's Hank Parker classic spinnerbaits but there not making any more. They did offer the smaller ones. I had them all and i changed the blades on my most successful spinnerbait but a larger pickerel liked it more than i did so he ripped it off my line right at the shoreline as i took it out of the water. I just ordered new larger colorado and indiana blades from netcraft so i can build another one to test out. I swapped out the blades on the one i lost and didn't write down what i did. I'm thinking the bigger blades thump more.

I'm still new to spinnerbaits and thanks to Glenn here he helped thru the times when i caught nothing. Then success came after i listened more to Glenn.

With the trailer on they need to run perfect and the fish will let you know when you get it right.

Spinnerbaits, definitely, buzzbaits, not really. I like Zoom's split tail trailer, either in chart. or white. The Yum ones shown are pretty much the same as the Zoom. I don't see why the white/red wouldn't work. Doesn't hurt to try.

Depending on the size of the spinnerbait/buzzbait, I'll use either a 4" Mr. Twister-type grub tail (i.e on 1/4oz. baits).  For the larger versions, I really like a Culprit-style "ribbon-tail" worm.  I usually use the 7"-8" size, but pinch-off a bit from the head to make it 5"-6"...

Not saying this works for everyone, just what I like.  :)

I've been slaying them on the same black buzz bait all summer. I dont use a trailer, or a trailer hook. I tie it on about 7:15 and fish till dark w/ it. Very the retrieves, and find out how the fish want it. I start by burning it accross the water. If that doesnt work, I use a slow retrieve, just enough to keep it on top of the water. If that doesnt work, I bring it back and  slow the retrieve just enought to let it sink slightly below the water and then speed up enough bring it back up, and do that all the way back. Stick with it. I caught every thing from a 1/2 lb to 8 lb doing this.

thanks for the help guys, i will definitley try all these options.  i have yet to use the trailers i purchased but i will definitley try other colors.

i usually burn them across the water, i always thought you had to keep tem moving.  never thought you should let them sink.  i will try it though

thanks again.

I find that a med-slow retrieve works best in the water I fish. Bouncing them off the bottom is pretty productive too.. :)

Yup, spinnerbaits. You can do the same with chatterbaits to.

Btw, I hardly ever use a trailer on any baits, except maybe a small grub on a spinnerbait.

Try a small plastic swimbait, preferably a Yamamoto Swim Senko or similar.  Pinch off some near the nose if you have to, but leave about 3" exposed past the skirt.
