Super User Montanaro Posted August 12, 2013 Super User Posted August 12, 2013 Was bank fishing today at a small local lake. Had a small pike follow my frog but not hit. Had a 1-2 pound largemouth swipe at my 1/2oz spinnerbait twice (trailer hook would have nabbed him, but too many weeds). Had a couple good size and a few smaller chase down swimjigs/soft plastic swimbaits, and frog, but they wouldn't strike. Was fishing in a cove with timber and grass that wind was blowing into. Saw a few good bass patrolling. I even 3 smaller bass jump completely out of water for bugs. Water was a light tea color and it was sunny all day. I had a 20lb flouro w/ 7 mh rod. I didn't have many small top water lures and the ones I did aren't effective with my setup. Any ideas? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 13, 2013 Global Moderator Posted August 13, 2013 Sounds like something a little slower would have been a good option or maybe a slight color change. You had their attention but something wasn't quite right for them to commit. Sounds like a fluke may have been a good option for you with the fairly clear water and fish chasing but not quite committing on other moving baits. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted August 13, 2013 Super User Posted August 13, 2013 MEGAStrike I dont use it a lot but the other day I was just getting nips no takers. Fish after fish just tap then nothing. This went one for a few hours its around noon so I had tube of MEGA Strike in my bag got it out spread it on my Palm Tree and 2 casts later fish on felt tap waited felt another tap and tug got it. Followed with a few more fish only thing I changed was the use of scent. Not sure how it would work with moving presentation but it helped me on the non-commiting fish this day. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 15, 2013 Super User Posted August 15, 2013 Just sounds like a slow day to me. Try again another day on different part of the day, or when the outside conditions are different, for example after a storm or on a very cloudy day. Those changes seems to change the mood of an entire body of water. When the ecosystem comes alive, so do the bass. Summers have a tendency to shut things down. Quote
brgbassmaster Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Add some JJs magic to your plastics. Best scent out there. Stays on your baits for hours and strong. Just dont get it on your hands lol. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted August 18, 2013 Author Super User Posted August 18, 2013 She committed! (No JJs) Quote
