mathnerdm Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, wasn't really sure where to put it. Just a quick question, what's your guys' experience with bass fishing in the evening? I'll be bank fishing at a lake if that matters. Any tips you have for fishing at night? Do spinnerbaits and plastics still work well? Thanks! Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 I fish in the evening/ night a lot and the general rule is to fish what you would fish with during te day. I fish from te bank as well. I usually throw top water lures during this time, mine is always a hollow body frog buzz baits work well too. I generally look for structure and when it gets dark I focus on the shore line, that's where the big ones are eating up bait fish. The key to night fishing, really wit all fishing, is find out where they are and what kind of activity they are showing. Your environment and the creatures around it can tell you a lot about the fish activity. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 Large topwater baits are good, as are larger, bulkier plastics fished on the bottom. But just about anything will work - if you are fishing where they are! Quote

papajoe222 Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I've had late evening/night outings when the only presentation that worked was a 3" curly tail grub on a bare jig head and others where I outfished my partner by sticking with a plastic worm that was producing in the early evening even after sunset. Many anglers overlook soft plastic presentations under low light conditions and because of that they miss out on some fantastic fishing opportunities. I hope you aren't in that group. Quote
Mccallister25 Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 In the evening, when the sun is going down I usually throw topwater lures. Poppers, buzzbaits, etc. A white/chartreuse buzzbait is my confidence topwater lure. As far as night is concerned, AK said it best. Just use what you would during the day. Also black lures work good at night. Fish looking upwards can see your lure against the night sky, and black is the best color againt that background. Quote

I throw frogs a lot at night and it always seems like the bigger ones like the white but for whatever reason they only hit it on the pause. The black catch a lot of fish as well though more consistently, I use black a lot during the day too 1 Quote
