skerie Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Hey, as I brought up last week, I have been thinking about going up to Lake Erie on my only entirely free day before I go back to college, which will be about the 16th of August for my trip. NOW... I have been talking to some people while fishing in Kinzua (Allegheny Reservoir) who live in Erie, and are saying that this time of year is about the worst Erie gets if you don't have a boat (Which I do not )So, I've been thinking about going to Sayer's Lake in Bald Eagle state park near bellefont/state college. I have been out on that lake with family many times on boat, but I am not sure how it would be for shore fishing, and not only that, but how it would be for shore fishing this time of year. The other lake I go to frequently via boat is Tioga Reservoir, north of Mansfield. But I am about LOST as to where I could bank fish there, because I don't see where a road leads down to the lake other than the boat launch area, where you can walk across a swampy grass plain, there's some VERY clear water about 4 feet deep near there, I imagine it looks...catfishy by nature, and carp-y by nature in that location... but it's not necessarily probably very good fishing through there. I'm going out for anything that will bite essentially, I enjoy bass fishing the most, for sure, but some perch and crappie (or some channel cats?) would be nice, too. I normally go up to Kinzua for walleye, musky, and some vicious smallmouth, but it's been a tough year at the zoo this year for EVERYTHING except carp (stupid things.) I've hammered the SM a few times, but only via boat. Does anyone have any suggestions as a place for me to go? I live half way between pittsburgh and erie. (3 hours to either) I would like to keep the drive under 3 hours. if you want a better idea where i'm from, google 15857 thanks guys, I really, really appreciate it. I gotta find a place and make a plan before I go or the girlfriend will beat me for driving around in circles like i usually do until i find a nice body of water.. hahahahaha.(edit: oh, I was also looking at lake arthur near moraine pa, any good? because there, I could rent a boat, as well.) skerie Posted August 8, 2013 Author Posted August 8, 2013 OH and i also forgot, I was looking at Canoe Creek Lake also.. I've never been there before, but i've heard there is pretty good bank fishing from an old guy I used to fish with. Does anyone know if this is true? I'm willing to try just about anything right now, lol. Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted August 11, 2013 Super User Posted August 11, 2013 I know you would do well fishing Canoe Creek.Fish the bank from below the swimming area to the dam over flow. Also several spots in that same area that you can wade out alittle. Good Luck! Quote
skerie Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 Thanks man!I actually, against better judgement, am going to head to glendale, as my girlfriend would be more willing to stay for a whole day if we were on a boat (will rent) than if sat her beside the water with me all day with no option but to fish, haha. So, I suppose a long day out shall be better than a few hours at Canoe. I'll definitely have to give that place a shot, since i posted that, I've been seeing it all over these forums! Thanks a ton for your input, bassfisher. Quote
