Super User Teal Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 Havent seen any posts or discussion on here about the Riley Cooper situation so I figured I would get yalls opinion. If you are unaware of the situation go to espn * and you wont have to look far. I feel what he said and did was absolutely dispicable and is absolutely unacceptable from any man much less a professional athlete. Id like to get yalls opinions on the action and how you would/ or how the Eagles should have handled it? Or are you ok with how they handled it. What do you guys forsee for Riley Coopers caree, is it over before it really started and do you think he will ever be able to have comraderie on a team. Im really surprised this hasnt been talked about. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 It is absolutely despicable, but I have no argument with there handling of it. I am sure there is a lot not being reported. If his teammates and organization are okay there is no reason to continue with it.  The one thing I would like to see is the video of what was going on prior. It won't provide him an excuse but a better understanding of why it occurred. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 I agree that what he did has no place, anywhere. Â I dont think Mike Vick had any other choice that the "Hey, people screw up" explanation that he gave. Kinda hard to lob hatred when you sit on Vick's perch. Â NOT a Shady McCoy fan. He's from Harrisburg (not far from me) and the stories I've heard of him from High School all the way up through make Riley Cooper look like a choirboy. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 Bah. He used a racial slur. Big freaking deal. The media is making a big deal out of nothing. Who really cares? People need to stop with all the PC garbage. I got called a peckerwood and a gringo the other day. I mean I cried for hours after that. My feeling was crushed over that. People need to grow up. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 If Andy Reid was still there or if Maclin wasn't out for the seaso he would have been cut and i think he should be cut and let soemone else pick him up if they are so inclined. He isn't really that great anyways.  I have heard though that since he has come back he has been tearing it up in practice.  And to me this isn't PC garbage, it is a deep rooted problem that if it doesn;t get cleaned up race relations will never improve. 1 Quote

That's a two way street though. Crucifying one group while not doing anything about the others doesn't solve anything. It only furthurs discontent and bad feelings. Quote

They preach and teach hypocracy, intolerence and exemption from the law they wish to hold other to. Instead of equality and fairness they seek dominance and superiority and this keeps the root of the problem growing strong.  But Coopers actions will be judged. Society tends to fool itself thinking it has the right to make some one answer to their standards or it has the ability to fix the worlds problems.  I am with Raider, it is a mountain out of a mole hill. It is nothing to worry about, and people do need to toughen up and mind their own matters. I think context does matter, things like alcohol and the situation deffinately play a role, and who knows someone may have said something first(not an excuse but again, provoking a comment). It is way different then the guy going out and lynching folks. Context matters  Also another good example to keep a sober mind. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 I agree with you guys but certain things are better left unsaid. I know we are to PC these days but there are still plenty of people who are offended by using such terms and if there are other things that can be said go ahead and do it and save the hassle. I also read somewhere that Cooper was known for some crazy stuff in college so a slip up, which is probably what this is due to the alcohol consumption, is not that crazy to imagine. 1 Quote
Super User Root beer Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 Just remember, his teammates and peers who are upset with this are the same type of people who listen to rap and hip hop musics that utters such words.... That is all I'm saying. 4 Quote

Today people tend to glorify the athelete waaaaay too much. Especially these young kids, they are superstars in their community and leagues. Put on a pedistal and left with little guidence, allowed to act above the law based on their ability to play a sport. That is another big part to the problem, and it is only getting worse and with things like this, hernandez, and those highschool footballers in Ohio. I read Whitlocks article on Wiggins, the basketball recruit, it is told he has a god complex like you wouldn't belive.  While race is the issue of Coopers comments did any of you catch Sir Charles Barkley and is words on the zimmerman case. He mentioned, that the case was used for fuel for biggots on both sides to preach even more racism and intolerance. The same thing for this cooper event. Quote

I say it is 70/30 that he is not on the team week one. The thing is though there could be some real steep penalties/fines from dictator goodell if someone does take it out on him and he thinks it is malicious.  And isn't it amazing how smart Sir Charles is when he goes political. I have always liked him and always will.... sarcazmo Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Man people that are up in arms over this have NO IDEA how tame what he said is compared to some of the stuff that comes out of peoples mouths in general not to mention every day language used in a professional locker room...  It happened... Super User jbsoonerfan Posted August 11, 2013 Super User Posted August 11, 2013 If black people don't want the N word used, then the are the ones who need to quit saying it. I heard Michael Wilbon talking about the difference saying that black people end it with an "a" and white people end it with "er" and that makes all the difference in the world. Don't give me that BS! If I call my GF a *itch, then you can call her one too. Don't throw out the race card only when it fits your "agenda" Â BTW, what if he had said "I'm gonna jump that fence and whoop every fat person in here" Then what, all fat people have a right to get all pissy about it? Â I'm so sick of the PC crap that I feel like the white man is the only person who is NEVER discriminated against. There is not one thing in this world you could say to me that would hurt my little feelings. 4 Quote
