catch anything Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Which one is better? I will be using this for heavier jigs and texas rigs. I know everybody loves theirs lews but this shimano is looking very good to. So which one should I choose Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted August 6, 2013 Super User Posted August 6, 2013 You will never get one agreed on solid answer to that question on any forum. Pick the one YOU like the most and go for it. They are both good reels. Hootie 2 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 6, 2013 Super User Posted August 6, 2013 X2, what Hootie said. You are stirring up a hornet's nest. Both are good reels. My suggestion, take your rod into the store place both reels on your rod and see which one suits you the most. Quote
kschultz76 Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 For simliar price or a little less I'd recommend the BPS Pro Qualifier. Quote
Cgrinder Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Citica because I prefer centrifugal braking. Also I don't think the Speed Spool comes in a 7:1 in LH. I could be mistaken. Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 BTW go to your local dicks. I know atleast the Citica 201G6 is on clearance for 99.97 and then 50% off this week. Quote
catch anything Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 I use right handed reels so im not concernced about that and the deal at dicks is pretty tempting haha Quote
Cgrinder Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 That is a good deal. I don't think my local one has that deal though. Quote
5dollarsplash Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 That offer has me doing math........I don't like it I wish there was a dicks closer to me, or a reason to head over towards Minnesota. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 6, 2013 Super User Posted August 6, 2013 Between those two, at MSRP, it's a push. I'll toss in a couple more: Daiwa Lexa 100 Pinnacle Optimus X Okuma Citrix Quote
Capt.Bob Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Yep like others said, you wont get a solid pick over the other, the Lew's is my choice because of more features, better drag, not only centrifugal, but mag braking also, and a smoother reel with smaller profile for palming. Both will give you good service. Quote
WiregrassRiverRat Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I dont think my dicks is doing that sale? Quote

jtharris3 Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I have both and like them both very well. I realize that doesn't help you much. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted August 7, 2013 Super User Posted August 7, 2013 This qustion is like asking which is better, a blonde, brunette and then someone else throws in a redhead. I own 3 citicas and have no complaints but as others have stated, what fits in your hand, has the gear ratio you are looking for and the right price is the one to go with. 3 Quote
Arv Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 If you can, bump up the price a bit for the Lews Tournament Speed Spool and that would get my vote. If its just between the two, I'd pick the Citica just because of the centrifugal braking system as opposed to the magnetic on the Lews SS. Like everyone else has said, either one is a solid choice. I would also recommend the BPS PQ. For $100 I don't think that reel can be beat. Quote
Bassfishing375 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I'm not a huge fan of Shimano's reels I think you pay for the name. So thats why I would say the Lew's, but I'm biased so I went and compared the two reels so it is more fair. Both reels are very similar in weight with the Citica weighing 7.5 oz and the Lew's weighing 7.6 oz. They both have the same number of models both having 4 options. They are 3 right handed reels in very similar gear ratios and only 1 left handed in again a similar ratio. The Citica has a max drag of 11lbs while the Lew's has 10lbs. The Citica only has 4 bearing while the Lew's has 10 which will make it a lot smoother. The Citica has centrifugal brakes while the Lew's has magnetic. The Citica cost $129.99 retail price while the Lew's Speed Spool cost $99.99 retail price. The only thing that it seems that the Citica has over the Lew's that it has centrifugal brakes, but for $129.99 I think that there are better options. If you are willing to spend 130 dollars I would get something better like the revo s or one of the reels that JFrancho recommended. 1 Quote

I am just trying to check all options.. but I am a big time lews fan! Quote
Super User tomustang Posted August 9, 2013 Super User Posted August 9, 2013 Been to two Dick's, both had the 200G on sale 99.99 and 50% off that. Depending on distance grabing two for the price of one looks better. I would call first and confirm/have them put on hold until you get there though, if you make that choice. Quote

Super User tomustang Posted August 9, 2013 Super User Posted August 9, 2013 Hey man arent the Gs crappy though? or is it the E.. cant remember I haven't read anywhere that the G or even the E was crappy. Is this advertised somewhere? Or is it more like store special that you don't see until you go there / call them? In store, I barely see anything listed for sale when it comes to fishing equipment in a dick's flyer, and their monthly clearance sales are never published but you'll see them around the fishing section. This time they have the cards hung up that say 50% off lowest price listed 'on sale'rods and reels. The citica g is on sale right now for 99.99 Quote
catch anything Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 So what is the difference between the Lews tournament, Regular speed spool or the mg Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 9, 2013 Super User Posted August 9, 2013 So what is the difference between the Lews tournament, Regular speed spool or the mg Complete specs are here: http://www.lews.com/reels.htm Tournament has dual brakes, the other two are magnetic. Bearing counts go up as you go up in price. The Tournament and MG adds a metal drag star. Quote
catch anything Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 How are the mag brakes? iv heard people complain bout reels having mag brakes and them being bad Quote
