Mccallister25 Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Guys.. Summer has really been kicking my butt. I simply cant get bit. I like jigging a lot, and have one tied on probably 90% of the time. Although I love it so much, Im actually kinda new to the technique. Does jigging get easier in the fall/spring months? I really hope it does, because theres something about a jig Im just really addicted to, but its tough for me to practice, and get better when the fish want nothing to do with my bait. Quote
JeziHogg Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I'm used to fishing a lot of spinners, cranks and jerkbaits. This year I vowed to use more jigs. I learned quickly to be patient and work them slow. I also found that while fishing bottom contact jigs ie. Footballs or finesse jigs work them like a craw fish would move in the water. Pop it two or three times then let the jig contact the bottom so the skirt flares out, let it sit for a ten count or slowly drag it for a few feet, and repeat. Its all rhythm IMO. Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 5, 2013 Super User Posted August 5, 2013 Jigs are not the answer in every situation but along with a Texas Rig I have one tied on 24/7/365. I never leave a piece of structure without throwing both. Feeling the bite may be your problem, often a bass will inhale a jig and not move giving no tell-tale signs you`ve been bit. Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 when people aren't catching fish on bottom contact and/or finesse baits (jigs, weightless worms, t-rigs, drop shot, shaky head, split shot etc) its usually b/c they are over working the lure. you really gotta slow down especially in august. instead of moving the lure with ur rod tip high try a slow 12" drag wtih ur rod tip low. that's usually my cross over movement to let me know its time for some patience with lots of dead sticking and small inch reel drags. yes you can def speed up again in fall (but you'll still have sluggish days). my rule of thumb is start fast and slow down as much as they want or till i nod off , which is usually when i get a bite on tuff days 1 Quote
