The inline spinner has to be one of the oldest of the spinner type baits.  It has been a really good fish catcher for me.  The Mepps Anglia,  Panther Martin and the Joesfly have been good lures.

I'm thinking of retuning some inline spinners with larger blades.  I did this one one of my hank parker classic spinnerbaits and it worked better at catching fish.  I went up one blade size.  I'm guessing the larger blade thump'd more.  Now i wonder if changing the blade on an inline spinner will improve it too.

With any lure i have learned about the site line in the water.  Most of the time i will reel it fast enough to stay on top of the water first near the surface.  If nothing happens then i adjust my speed so it goes just passed the sight line as to where i can't see it.  If you can see the lure the fish can see you.  But they seem to strike just under the sightline most of the time if there not hitting the topwater/subsurface area.

How many of you guys/gals still use an inline spinner at times?

I wonder if any of the pro's use inline spinners?

I still use my mepps #3 aglia with silver blade and white treble. I hook up with a lot of pickerel with it but it catches a fair amount of bass also.

I use it early & late seasons and I think I use them only because If a bass don't hit then maybe I have a chance with trout.

As far as pros: I was reading an article in Field and Stream (I think it was) and the author interviewed Ike and Ike mentions how he uses them when the bite is really tough in tourneys. I still have the article, I can dig it up and scan it in PDF file if you want to read it.

I constantly use the mepps anglia #3 silver/ brown bucktail, the joesflies in super striker series in firetiger apache, the panther martin silver/yellow fly and the strike king silver black #3. Ocasionally i use the mepps XD3 in silver/silver/white tail.

These have always been my go to baits when fishing is tough also.

But sometimes color matters and sometimes it doesn't.  I was catching bass after bass using a mepps #3 silver/gray tail and my son wanted to borrow one and all i had was the red/white brown tail to give him.  We had so many doubles after that i lost count on both lures.   BB

If have the most luck with them.  Since they dont' recieve much hype I always end up using them less than I should, but always happy with the results.   I think if you are having a bad day, an good inline is probably the second closest bait to a sure thing after a senko.

They are the first artificial lure i started using and caught tons of fish.I still use them once in awhile....but i make my own now.

I've probably caught more fish and more species with a Panther Martin than any other lure. I plan on making it a part of my smallmouth arsenal as long as I fish. Actually caught a 6lb+ largemouth on one about 11 years ago in a golf course pond in Illinois too.  Ike did an article on them in Bassmaster some months back, how it is a bait that produces so well but is mostly overlooked.

Its overlooked and at the same time its right up there with all my hottest liures that i use.  With the inline spinner if we adjust our speed they will catch fish most of the time.  Inline spinners can be a given were going to land fish.  I have enven dragged a panther martin in a stream over rocks slow and caught bass in the pools.

Being a retired engineering tech i like to test everything and now i test lures to see if they work or not.  I'm finding out that most will catch fish at onetime or another.  Its just up to figure out when to use them and how to use them.

I have taken to using them to fancast an area after I have fished it with my spinnerbaits, senko/swimsenko, rage craw, and crankbaits. It is many times good for one more fish.

Plus, they are cool to watch  ;D

I have to say again its all about slowing it down to get just under the sight line were we can't see it but the fish can see it.  If we can see the lure the fish can see us and sometimes there shy or finiky about us seeing them or there just plain sneeky.  But once its lower into there world they will strike it.

1/2 oz white roostertail.  I will burn it just under the surface when I see them chasing shiners on the surface.

I always have some inline spinners in my tackle bag. When the bite gets tough or when fish want a smaller bait, they're hard to beat! The same holds true for baits like the beetle spin and mimic minnow w/spinner. ;)

When I was a little bitty boy my favorite lure was a Luhr-Jensen Shyster ;)

Me too! Here's a photo of one of my Shysters that I've had since the early 1960's. These are really good spinners and the offset line tie helps prevent line twist.

I'm almost afraid to fish some of the 1960's baits that I still have - they sorta have sentimental value and I'd hate to lose them ;)

Use them? You bet and I make my own. This is one of the first lure types I tried making since you don't really have to paint them.

I usually have a few in different sizes in my "Save me from going home skunked" pack.  ;D

Like Catt, I used the Shyster inline spinner when I was just a kid but I also have used another inline spinner, the Hildebrandt Snagless Sally for over 40+ years and still catch quite a few fish every year on them. Use the Sally with an Uncle Josh prok frog trailer (#11 size). You won't be disappointed.
