coak Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Hey guys, Went out on the water today and had one of my favorite rods snap the tip off before I even got into the water!!!! I know it was my fault and no warranty. The rod itself is a Shimano Convergence 6'6" ML/F Casting rod. I am wanting some suggestions for a replacement rod. I will require three (3) things though in advance.......(1) The rod has to be a 'true' ML. By this I mean to say not like an Abu rod that usually fishes one power rating higher than what it is. (2) The rod must be under or at 6'6" with no pistol grip. My wife also uses this rod and she's 5'0"; therefore I want something she can handle relatively easily. (3) Please do not recommend to me a rod that costs more than $175-200. Two hundo is my limit. I've been looking at a 6'4" KVD something or other at basspro. There's also a company called B&R Outlaw rods that offer a 6'3" for $149. I have no knowledge of either of the rods I've looked at or any others since I've fished this rod for the last 5 seasons. I look forward to seeing suggestions and doing my homework to arrive at a favorable solution. I've checked the Flea Market and not too many ML rods come up for sale that often. As the title implies; I am also very open to buying a used rod as well. Thanks in advance, Coak Quote
Kevin22 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I have a KVD 6'4ML. I use it for weightless flukes in open water. I like it a lot, just don't get many chances to use it! Quote
Super User tomustang Posted August 4, 2013 Super User Posted August 4, 2013 If $200 is your limit you could find two good rods for that price, could even get another reel too. Quote
Boogey Man Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 BPS Carbonlite 6'6" med light. I have one I use for lighter jerkbaits, crankbaits and poppers. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted August 4, 2013 Super User Posted August 4, 2013 For that money, I'd consider a 6'3" ML XF Avid. Sweet rod. Can be had for less than retail via (legit, highly rated) retailers on eBay. Quote

Super User Darren. Posted August 4, 2013 Super User Posted August 4, 2013 No such rod. Ah yes. My eyes scanned right past "casting" in the paragraph. There is such rod, but it is spinning. Quote
Kevin22 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Ah yes. My eyes scanned right past "casting" in the paragraph. There is such rod, but it is spinning. And it is a good one for walleye/smallies! I think st. croix does have a 6'6 MLF and a 6'9 MLXF in the avid casting line though. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 If you can't find exactly what you want I can build it for $175 TYD assuming you're not interested in running it up with a lot of bling. Quote
