BuffaloBass716 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 It seems like there are no good places to fishing for largemouth bass around here. The spots that I have tried are have been so slow lately and have I have only seen small bass. Ive tried looking on google earth but there really isnt much within a 30min drive. Earlier, a month or so ago, I would at least get some fish, now nothing. Where I live, smallmouth bass are what most people go for in the niagara river and Lake eire but shore fishing for them, especially now that its summer is very difficult, thats why I like going for largemouth in a pond/lake setting. I really enjoy fishing but I just dont know where to try anymore:/ and now my brother seen some of the fish ive caught before and want to get into it and learn but I feel bad because the fishing has been tough. Dyerbassman Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Its tough all over right now. Don't get discouraged. I used to get mad this time of year. Now I just enjoy the time outdoors, whether I get 1 or 10. Fish slower right now. This is the hardest time of the year. You'll get 'em! Quote
derekxec Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 thats why they call it fishing and not catching Quote
Super User Scott F Posted August 3, 2013 Super User Posted August 3, 2013 I've never been in Buffalo before but within 30 seconds on Google I found a bunch of shore fishing spots. Have you tried Tonawanda Creek? Rivers are great bass spots in summer. I easily found this information that may help you. "Tonawanda Creek and the Erie Barge Canal are good places to catch a variety of warmwater species such as smallmouth bass, rock bass, bluegill, pumpkinseed, northern pike, bullhead and channel catfish. Downstream of Route 277, multiple municipal parks offer shore access to Tonawanda Creek. Upstream of the confluence with the Erie Canal, Tonawanda Creek is best fished from a canoe or kayak. There is plentiful shore access to the Erie Canal east of Lockport." If you limit yourself to a 30 minute drive, you may not catch what you're looking for. I sometimes drive over 300 miles when I can to get the fish I want. Those who catch fish do what they have to do to get them. Quote
aquaholic Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 the temps have dropped here and i have really been doing rather well. Just keep at it, eventually the fish will get hungry Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted August 3, 2013 Super User Posted August 3, 2013 yeah I hear ya its hard right now.. try night fishing or early am.. I've been fishing a new pond/lake for a week straight and its been slow ive pulled about 7 fish out in days of pretty much 4-8 hour outings.. but tonight I went out and did very well on honey hole uno... ill be doing this every night to get my fix for a big moma Quote
don53 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 go for the bluegill, make the bass angry.hang in there itll get better. Quote
Eternal Angler Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Maybe you need to try different type of bait that is fished in a different way! Some people just keep throwing the same old fishing lures and expect fish to bite.Have you tried topwater hard baits?Have you tried the combination of flashy spinners with soft plastics. Such as the beetle spin or mepps spinner?Have you tried different body soft baits? I hear a lot of people have success with weightless Yamamoto Senkos.Try different retrieves, such as stop and go with crankbaits and other lures.Sometimes it's not the spot, but how you fish it.But like one member said fishing does gets slow in the middle summer. You might even want to try popping bugs with a bubble. Even though it's a small little bait, you'd be surprised how big of big bass you can catch with such a small little fly. 1 Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted August 3, 2013 Super User Posted August 3, 2013 yeah you gotta try things outside the box I just went to a place with tough fishing and nailed them for a few hours.. used a different color that doesn't work at other places and it works here now... Until next time they wont touch it im sure Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 3, 2013 Super User Posted August 3, 2013 ...But? ...But? There is no "But" in bass fishing. You go out - you fish - you catch something - you don't catch something - you learn from the experience. No if's, and's or but's. Start teaching your brother and you will learn more, too. One of the aspects of college teaching way back in the Golden Age of College when I taught was that preparing for the class topic was extremely rewarding, refreshing and I learned a lot of information I would have never learned if I had not been teaching. Now go outside and show the kid how to flip and pitch. 1 Quote
BuffaloBass716 Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Thanks for the advice. This is my first year and im basically learning by myself and with the help of everyone on bassresource. I dont really have the best baits and equipment right now but im hoping to acquire better things and tackle as I progress as long as I stick with it. Over the winter I plan on buying tons of new things to try. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted August 4, 2013 Super User Posted August 4, 2013 If your willing to drive 45 mins, I can put you on fish. Somedays they are not as big as I want them to be, but we'll catch. 1 Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted August 5, 2013 Super User Posted August 5, 2013 I've been catching them decently at tifft park and also across from tifft by the old steel plant I think it is. Google waterport or lyndonville see how far that is from you I can put you on fish easily also and even more if you have a canoe/kayak. It takes me 45min-hour to get to tifft or small boat harbor depending on traffic. Quote

Yeah I tried Tifft a few times about a week or so ago and my brother got a little bass, I caught some sunnies and crappie, but nothing over 12". Tifft is about 25mins or so from my house. How often do you go there? Maybe me and my brother will give it another chance and go the same day you go? Give us some tips because it was so slow the days we went. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted August 5, 2013 Super User Posted August 5, 2013 I go out every now and then to there but probably not for a while because I'm on orders till October and out Rochester and CNY way. I've had the best luck far end by the little bridge top water frogs and weightless flukes. Never any monsters biggest was maybe 2lbs. Quote
BuffaloBass716 Posted August 5, 2013 Author Posted August 5, 2013 Yea, that spot looked good to us too and we tried some frogs but nothing hit. We eventually walked all the way to the other side of the lake (next to the highway) there was one trail that lead down the steep bank and thats where we got the one bass. At least you had some luck there... It seems like everyone else there was just bobber fishing, and I still didnt see anyone catch anything. Next time you get out there, I would try to come out there too. Also, what time of day where you having the best luck there? Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted August 5, 2013 Super User Posted August 5, 2013 First thing in the morning 6am usually Quote
