ohio-rage-tail Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Have any of you guys tried to attach a split ring to the front of one these to see if it made it walk any easier? Quote
Dyerbassman Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Nope. I still have yet to get a fish on one. Give it a try and let us know. Quote
Kevin22 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 No. I havent. But I may. I find them fairly difficult to walk compared to other baits so it may help. Put me in the boat of not catching anything on them. I think they have their time and place, I just havent found it yet! Quote

X3 With about 10hrs combined use Ive yet to get a strike on one. I pretty much stopped using it. I use straight braid and found it to walk fairly easily. Quote
Super User MCS Posted August 3, 2013 Super User Posted August 3, 2013 Some of my baits like this I go with a rapala knot instead of a split ring. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 3, 2013 Super User Posted August 3, 2013 I like to add split rings when I can't hook up my snap swivel. I purchased the rebel frog R and the rebel frog pop R but I haven't wet them yet. With this smaller lure it sounds like we need to throttle back the walk the dog to a more softer approach and go easy with it. From what I have heard it's suppose to catch fish really well. I plan on using it with smaller twitches at first. Then I would try a slow reel next with the frog r. Next with the pop r the more splash the better. I'd give it two inch pops, maybe 3 inch pops the most. Quote

I have the frog pop r...It is lighter than the standard pop r kinda in between that and the small pop r....It was harder to cast and your right a gentler action applied had it working nice. I have used it to catch to bass and bluegill. It is a nice smaller sized pop r and has a little more bouancy/bounce on the pause. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 3, 2013 Super User Posted August 3, 2013 Exactly with a smaller lure we need to use a more suttle approach. We can't hammer it the way we do with the larger lures. I also use a 5'6" crankbait setup for the smaller lures. With using 6lb test it can cast the lighter lures. This is my approach to using the lighter tackle. I'm thinking using the heavier line on a larger crankbait setup could affect this smaller lighter lure action too. This could be why it's not producing fish the way it should. Quote
CayMar Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 After reading all this I picked up the frog-r. I'm going to try my luck with it this evening at dusk on the lake. 1 Quote
Diggy Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I havent used mine in a bit but it did catch many good fish. I used it as is, walking it with slow cadence and pauses. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted August 4, 2013 Super User Posted August 4, 2013 I used the rebel frg r most of last year and this year. I changed the hooks on it and used it directly next to weedlines and small pockets where i normally would use a pop r. It caught me tons of fish but the bait is a pain to get to walk correctly. I attached a split ring which helped. Most of my fish came on the pause when the bait was sitting still. I added white feathers to the rear hook. Quote
vtfishing and hunting Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I've picks up the rebel frog r but still seem to have a hard time walking the dog when I reel it in it seems to go a Lil on its side. I still manage to catch fish but would def like some more action in then lure. Any suggestions?? Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 17, 2014 Super User Posted July 17, 2014 I have no problems walking it.........but it's a dink magnet, same with the popper. Quote
