pbizzle Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I found this at Wal-Mart for $130. Looks pretty good. Please remember I'm fishing on a tight budget and don't get to fish that heavily to wear out my equipment. Here's the specs 11bearings Aluminum frame Flipping switch Dual cast control 7.1:1 burner ratio 6'9 medium heavy micro guides IM8 graphite http://www.walmart.com/ip/Quantum-KVD-Baitcast-Combo/22172335 Quote
pbizzle Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 What's your budget? Not much! LOL. I'm basically just looking for something reliable that I can get for around $150+/-. I thought that this looked pretty promising. I don't get to fish that often maybe 1-2 a week and one church tournament per month, so it wouldn't wear as fast/ as if I fished as often as most of these guys on here. Quote
bmlum415 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Hmm... I reccommend that you save $50 more and try an abu veritas, st croix mojo, or *** rod paired with a lews speed spool /shimano caenan/daiwa aird reel for about $200. I think you will be pleased with doing that instead. Ive owned the st croix mojo bass and used a friends veritas before I switched to all dobyns rods and theyre great for the money. along with all the positive comments about the *** rod. Btw I fish about 2 times a week and a highschool tournament once a month along with a few scattered pro/ams and open tournaments here and there. Just my opinion here but I think that would be a better option. Quote
Arv Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 If you can swing 160 I'd strongly recommend the BPS Pro Qualifier/Carbonlite combo. I think BPS is doing free shipping now on orders over 75 bucks. Quote
tgm Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 This looks like a pretty nice setup,is that the gear ratio you want? How about the rod action, are you ok with it? If so,buy it and get out there! Arv has a good answer also. Quote
bluezed Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I'll go ahead and put in another vote for the BPS Pro Qualifier / Carbonlite combo. For $159 it's tough to beat. Quote
Super User deep Posted August 2, 2013 Super User Posted August 2, 2013 Aluminium frame sounds good; but if I wanted a reliable reel that would serve me for years, I'd take a look at a Shimano or the PQ that has been mentioned. Quote

For $99, this is a great deal, even if the rod is mediocre (which from the reviews it's not a bad rod) it's basically a free rod because the Pro Qualifier goes for $99 normal price by itself. Quote

Hope they take rain checks cuz I just checked and they are out of stock on all the combos listed. I'd be listing them for $49 since there aren't any to sell. Quote

It is essentially the same reel with the exception some of the internals have cheaper parts. I think the biggest difference was the type of bearings used, plus on my PQ is states Made in Korea..while the one that came with this combo says Made in China. The rod is junk honestly..you can't feel crap! Even moving baits it was hard to distinguish what you were hitting..weeds, rocks, ...a fish?... I bought the combo because I said the same thing..it's a PQ, but then realized it was a little different. Hence why they could sell it cheaper. Quote

Arv Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 We'll be at bass pro this evening so I'll check it out. Sounds good for a $200 combo. I can't speak for the Carbonlite's performance but I have handled it before and I like the way it feels in my hands. As far as the PQ goes though, I've owned 2 (I only sold them off recently b/c I fell in love with Lews) and I believe they are the best reel you can get for the money. I think they perform right up there with some of my 150-200 dollar reels. Some members on here have also proven that they are built to last, given you take care of them and maintain them. At 160, that's a great deal and where I'd be putting my money if I was you. Quote
