tgm Posted August 7, 2013 Author Posted August 7, 2013 Update ,St.Croix also sent me decals and a catalog with 20% off apparel. The two companies who responded had no idea that I own several St.Croix rods and lots of Quantum pt reels. Just makes me feel good about where I spend my part of the billions. Quote
jhoffman Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 To think that a sticker advertising a product has no bearing is insane. A certan archery company has so many people brainwashed into believing their bow is THE ONLY bow worth owning that its crazy. They did that through marketing hype to the fullest extent. The fact they can get a guy to cough up $100 to make a decal the size of his entire back window of a full size truck just to say... look at me, I own this bow is mind boggling. Thats more what this is for most, its a look at me. I personally see it as a great way to have your nice stuff stolen. If I see a guy who has lone wolf treestand stickers or gloomis stickers or... its pretty much for certain at some point in time he has expensive gear unattended. Ill pass on that advertisement to crooks. Quote

Grantman83 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Funny, because I have high end gear I go above and beyond to make sure it is never unattended. Personally, companies that have sent me stickers have already had my business and I put them on my car to help their business because they have helped me. I figure it is the least I can do for companies that have done right by me. Quote
prjavelin Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Stickers are as cheap advertisement as you can get. You get the company or product exposed to many people, for a rather long amount of time, your brand gets a lot of recognition and all for a buck or two? People get curious and will search or simply ask the person displaying the sticker about the product. Do you guys really think that strike king will go out of bussiness if they spend 2000-5000 on stickers and hand them for free? last Ive heard they have a LOT of sponsored pro anglers and that has to eat a considerable amount of money but if you dont care about competitive fishing you will still be seeing their name pop up in boats or trucks of people and will make you purchase they product even if it meant just to try it. How much is a billboard(TV or the internet arent free either) worth monthly? why not turn every car you can into a permanent billboard by giving them a 1$ sticker? You can have the best product in the world If people dont know it exist no one will buy it. Quote
martintheduck Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Get a job, work hard, and you can buy all the stickers you want! I bet if you REALLY wanted, you could take the cushions off your couch and find enough change to buy 5 stickers! HELLO! Geez.... Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 I buy clothing because of the fit, not the logo on it. I don't care to put any kind of decal on my car, free or not. Quote
0119 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Ask any cop, he'll tell you the stickers only tell the burglar's what they'll likely find in your vehicle. I remember getting a confession from more than one guy who used NRA decals as a clue to target vehicles for handguns. 1 Quote
derekxec Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 yeah i dont think i would want to target someone with a NRA decal lol...i know if they targeted me would probably be their last target lol Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 No stickers on my ride. Quote
jhoffman Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Really ?!?!?! I personally think that makes you just as much a low life as the thieves. What it makes me is not naive enough to believe it never happens. You dont get around much do you? I see it all the time, guys complaining about their gear being stolen and its usually the ones who feel the need to advertize it to the world. I have nice gear, a great job, a great family... theres no need to steal. Quote

Jolly Green Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Not into decals on my anything. I think it's an interesting experiment, though. There's a record store in my hometown that's still alive and kicking though the odds continue to pile up against businesses like that, and while I'm sure they would love for everyone to display their bumper stickers, they don't give them away, even if you ask nicely. It has nothing to do with their character, it's just business. Give a man a sticker and he'll take a handful and forget about them til the next time he cleans his truck out; sell a man a sticker at cost and he's almost certainly going to use it. Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted August 8, 2013 Super User Posted August 8, 2013 The only sticker on my truck is the inspection sticker, and that cost me about thirty bucks. Massachusetts won't give me a cent for the "advertising". In fact they passed a law, years ago, that requires me to have their sticker on my vehicles. Quote

My kids are constantly picking up stickers at various events and in the trash in about 1 hour. However, if someone contacts a company normally it is because they have an interest in displaying their logo and and probably won't end up in the trash. Quote
derekxec Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Are you always watching your unattended vehicle in hopes of taking deadly force in the protection of physical property? when there are thousands of dollars worth of fishing equipment in my truck you bet i am! if i have to go in the store and im with someone they go in store and i wait till they come back out to go in...or if im by myself i only stop where i can constantly see my truck to make sure everythings ok lol (either way everything gets locked inside the truck no matter what)...but really if someone has an NRA sticker i wouldnt take the chance they could be coming out or so Quote
FrogFreak Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Well, I have a decal of a bass and an Oregon Ducks decal. Both were given to me. I would buy a decal if I felt very strongly about the product but I have a 2 decal limit on my truck. Don't ask me why, I just do. Now, as far as stealing based on decals, I have to admit that makes some sense if you're a criminal I suppose. Up where I live, we just don't have much in the way of crime so I don't think like that but I probably should. I work for a marketing company and we preach that brand recognition has everything to do with touch points. The more touch points you have the better brand recognition you're going to get. What you're ultimately looking for, if you would like to grow your company, is broader brand recognition. Here's a way to look at it. Let's say you're new to fishing and you're looking for a reel. You're driving and see several Abu Garcia stickers. You then see an Abu Garcia commercial during your favorite fishing show. Next thing you know it's like you see Abu Garcia everywhere. Well, now you're aware of that brand. You will probably start researching and possibly buy. Does it work everytime? Nope but if you don't have brand awareness, it will happen less often and if you're focused on growth, that growth will become more difficult to aquire. The point here is a decal by itself isn't a sure fire tactic but if you couple the decal with other touch points, you are on your way to brand recognition and brand familiarity. 1 Quote
