lightacklesavantRVA Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Robious Landing park on the James river in Richmond VA is quite near my house, and whenever I have fished there I haven't had any luck. I was wondering if anyone had fished there and had any tips. Thanks! Quote
Dintlow Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I fish near Maidens and I've had luck with a Rebel Wee Crawfish lately. I just read a fishing report from a guy that fished Watkins and he did well with a Bandit 100, Little Big O, lipless crank and creature bait. What have you been using and what time of the day have you been fishing? Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 2, 2013 Super User Posted August 2, 2013 And you will not do good there and are wasting your time. If you still want to fish that area go for both large and smallmouth bass. If you look towards the 288 Bridge or east towards Bosher's Dam you will see lots of wood in the water. That is where the bass are hanging out. Try your luck at the smaller boat launch ramp where the people have their dogs swim. Your luck may change there. Even if you walked over to the American Legion Post and fished off their bank you will not do well. You need a boat to fish the Historic James River from Watkins Landing down to Bosher's Dam and hit all of the wood and grass along the bank. While fishing the park have you noticed any boaters fishing the area? Nope. And you will not unless no one is around and they hit the floating dock. We pass up that area for better fishing opportunities. If you want to try your luck for catfish then give that a shot but you may be wasting your time going for bass in this area. Just a word to the wise. 1 Quote

lightacklesavantRVA Posted May 17, 2014 Author Posted May 17, 2014 Thanks for all of the advice guys! I caught a few smallies on a lipless crankbait around some brush and creek mouths, and a few catfish by the boat ramp on cut bait, but overall you guys were right in that the area is unproductive. There are a fair amount of gar cruising on the surface though, and I caught a pretty nice one on a rope fly. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Rage Tail Rage Craw Falcon Craw, or 4" weightless senko EARLY in the morning. That place is a WAR zone, some many top water blow ups! Check my photos and that smallie in there came from Robious Landing park. PM me if interested and I will tell you where. Hope that helps! Wdy PS That is the HISTORIC James running through Sam's OLD veins!! Hahah We need to go fishing soon Sam. PSS Welcome to the forums!!! Quote
heyitskirby Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 If you can at least get in a kayak or a canoe and don't want to go far, I've caught good fish on the opposite side of the river from there throwing back towards the main channel. Quote
