tate Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 2011 Ford F150 FX4 full crew cab, Ecoboost ( V.6 3.5 liter twin turbo)...... truck and engine full of technology. Develops lots of torque and hp at fairly low RPMs. Truck easily tows my Triton 19, I think boat and trailer is around a third of the max tow rating. Plenty of suspension and no sag, not sure what my trailers tongue weight is. With surge brakes on the trailer braking seems the same with or without trailer. Milage is probably close to other trucks and engines in class. Towing the Triton I get 12.5 and regular driving I'm around 17-18. I can get the 22 but that is working at. Even as a half ton truck it's towing rating is higher than my last truck a Chevy 2500 crew 3/4 ton with 6 Liter. (8.5mpg towing, 12 reg driving) Chevy made it to 195k with no problems and real hard miles. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted August 5, 2013 Super User Posted August 5, 2013 see, 00mod, you NEED a Ford! Need is a word in my vocabulary. I need a lot of things(new baits. etc.), but needing a Ford....nah! Jeff Quote
Downeaster2010 Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Most trucks are not very economical towing but most full size trucks do a good job of it. I have a 2007 Tundra limited model. I bought it a year and a half ago. It had 40K miles on it and is in mint condition. Everyone told me that it is the best truck period, and i would find that out when I drove one. I expected it would be good, but not as good as it turned out to be. These full size Tundras will pull just about anything, and the power is amazing. My two best buddies have since driving mine, both purchased a quality used Tundra. They are all sweet. Towing packages and transmissions coolers, etc are all standard on most models. I will never change again. 2 Quote
"BRB" Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I have heard that Chevy is coming out with a 1/2 ton diesel in like 2015. I am thinking about taking a look at this when it comes out. I will most likely wait a few year to see if i can get a good used one so I don't have to pay that new price. But i drive a 2007 chevy and it tows my boat every where i need it to go just at 12 mph. brgbassmaster Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Had a tundra and loved it for towing. Now i have a 2010 tacoma and will be towing with this when i get back to the mainland. Quote
Downeaster2010 Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 You will love the Tacoma, for all but towing. Still a very nice vehicle. Quote
jessejames556 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I love those tacomas but I am wondering how well they tow..i have a 16.5 foot skeeter right now so weight is not an issue, but down the road I may want something larger.right now i have a 06 dodge Dakota, 4.7 liter v8 6 speed manual. Quote
