Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted August 3, 2013 Super User Posted August 3, 2013 regular soap works well enough for me Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 3, 2013 Super User Posted August 3, 2013 regular soap works well enough for me Pretty much for me too. I don't find bass to be that much of a problem with smell. The tougher odors for me are squid, frozen sardines and barracuda, as disgustingly as they smell they are are absolutely wonderful on the plate. I wash with soap before I leave the marina, then again when I get home, the smell may take a few hours to dissipate. Quote
livetofish28 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 grab a handful of fresh green pine needles and rub your hands with it works to get any fish smell off. Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 Thanks for all the advice! Haven't gone fishin for a few days so I haven't got a chance to test any yet. Quote
Diggy Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Bacon grease... hands smell like honey maple rather than fish. I almost ate my fingers. 2 Quote
CountBassula Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 i actually like the smell of fish, just as i like the smell of gun cleaning products on my hands, but for my wife's sake i wash my hands with soap and it takes care of most of it... Quote
Loop_Dad Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Do you know why Sushi is served with pickled ginger? Eating Sushi with finger is the proper and cool way of doing it in Tokyo and pickled ginger, not only eatable, but removes the fishy smell from you finger. However unless you are sushi chef other methods mentioned already should be easier. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 13, 2013 Super User Posted August 13, 2013 No sushi should ever smell fishy. If it does, run Or else you'll get the runs. . Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted August 13, 2013 Super User Posted August 13, 2013 Try grass. It's loaded with chlorophyll, which is pretty good at neutralizing unpleasant odors. Grab a fistful of grass, crunch it up in your hands, then rub it over your hands, and around your fingers. It will work better if the grass is damp. Quote
wakeeater Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 stainless steel. they sell the "jimmy houston" stainless steel bars of soap at bps. it's good for getting gas, fish, & other undesirable smells off. i learned this at a wakeboard camp about 10 years ago. it works super good! Quote

Coming from a lobster fisherman that dealt with bait smell everyday, I gotta think this may be an excellent solution, and it's free. Quote
ToadTorcher Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Tooth paste! Colgate baking soda and peroxide works quite nicely. Add a quarter size amount to your palms and rub it around then wash/rinse it off. Usually takes the smell of every time! Quote
jhoffman Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Ive found three things 1: Hand Sanitizer 2: Stainless Steel Soap Bar(not soap) aka The Fish 3: TW sells a soap and it works awesome Quote
Super User flechero Posted August 15, 2013 Super User Posted August 15, 2013 Try grass. It's loaded with chlorophyll, which is pretty good at neutralizing unpleasant odors. My neighbors dog proves that theory wrong big time!!! I think the key is not letting the fish slime dry... wet hands before grabbing the fish if practical and then rinse/wipe immediately after releasing the fish. I never need more than regular soap and water if I do that. If I let it dry, I have to do all the other things mentioned in this thread. Quote
mddrew88 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I've never really noticed a bad smell from bass that regular hand soap wouldn't remedy. If you still smell rank after that then it might not be your hands fault. Quote

prjavelin Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I came into this thread expecting a hilarious back and forth...... I am disapointed Quote
