martintheduck Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Have an 18ft Xpress H18 with a 150 v-max on it. Have the jackplate set to 4 inches -to- 4-1/4 inches below pad. Im not comfortable raising it any higher since I lack a water pressure gauge. ANYWAY - Once I'm hitting 56-58 MPH @ 5300rpm, you can feel the boat get on pad and quickly after it starts walking. It can be corrected by steering a little bit port.... the suggested "jerk jerk jerk" to port doesn't correct it. SO - giving it a bit of steering to port manages to correct it, but only as long as the steering it HELD to port... once I let up and go back to moving straight, it starts to walk again. Does this seem like a weight distribution problem? I still don't quite understand how the trim tab works, but I thought maybe an adjustment on the tab could help the problem? Any input is appreciated. Thanks. Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 It is wanting to walk left (back end goes left) or it is turning the bow left (back end going right)? Almost every chime walk problem is the back end pulling left and the boat turning right. Mostly because it is a weight issue and the left side is riding higher and has less drag than the right. Mine does it bad when I am alone, but put another person and more weight on the left side and she runs great. My boat is a 17.5' ranger alum with a 115. The only way to stop the chime if I am alone is to trim it back down off pad but keep it on plane. Quote
martintheduck Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 Ya know, I didn't much pay attention to that detail. I'll check it out and report back Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted July 31, 2013 Super User Posted July 31, 2013 If you have to steer port(left) then it would seem the back end is going left, causing the front(bow) to go right. Jeff Quote

Jeff I didn't much pay attention on which way things are moving... all I know is it starts shaking. It has been correctable the past times, I'm just trying to figure out if there is a way to get it to balance better on pad. I'm usually going out alone (I'm 6'1 and 175 lbs) so I will see if it still happens on Friday when I bring my buddy along to even out the weight. Might just need to add some dead weight. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 The boat is obviously a defect, I'll be by in the morning to pick it up. 2 Quote
