CxThree Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I pulled the trigger today and bought 3 of the Pro Qualifier reels and 3 BassPro Carbonlite rods. 3x 6.4 reels 1 6'9 MH Micro Rod 1 7' M Micro Rod 1 7' MH Micro Rod From the reading I have been doing here, Those sounded like a heck of a deal for $179 each($159 for non micro). Playing around with them tonight in the yard, they seem to cast very well and feel like really good stuff. Can't wait to hit the lake this weekend. Do you guys think this is a fairly good setup? Anything missing? I plan on using the 7 ft Medium one for crankbaits and the other 2 for worm. One Tx and one NC setup. I have a spinning rod/reel from Abu Garcia that I plan to use for skipping/jigging. I have another spinning rod/reel from Pflueger(triton) than I plan to use for drop shots. A Pflueger baitcaster(Purist) on a Allstar MH 6'6 that I will use for my spinner baits I guess. And finally a Pinnacle Obsession combo 6.6 MH that I will probably just keep in the boat for now. I'm guessing this is the lowest quality one I own but I actually like it and can cast if better than the others so far. I may just set it up for topwater early morning fishing or something. Quote
Jigs 4 Pigs Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I have the 7' med/hvy 7:1 non-micro combo. The Carbonlite feels pretty crisp and is light weight. With the ProQualifier, I can really launch baits with mag brakes on zero cent w/ 2 pins and not too many backlash problems. All in all it's a pretty decent setup and it gets the job done. Great value! Quote
bluezed Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I have a PQ on a Carbonlite rod and really like it. Quote

Super User Sam Posted July 30, 2013 Super User Posted July 30, 2013 CX, the best cranking rod I have is the BPS Cranking Stick. All of my Extreme rods perform as promised. I am going to get another 7-foot spinning rod this winter when BPS has its big sale. I did have a problem with a Johnny Morris reel a number of years ago but the lower priced one I bought for a specific setup has performed well. When a company puts their name on a product they want it to be the best within its price range. You did good with your purchases and I would not be concerned. What I would like to see is the name of the company that made the product for BPS, Cabela's, etc. That would be interesting even if the product has its own specifications different from the products the manufacturing company produces. CxThree Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 I almost got the cranking stick. The combo pricing on the carbonite rod and pro q reel swayed me a bit. I've been in BP so much recently that I have come to know the guys there quite well. One of them in particular has been extremely helpful and he told me that Pflueger made the reels for them. Quote

Super User *Hootie Posted July 30, 2013 Super User Posted July 30, 2013 Pfueger also made by pure fishing If you compare a Less speed spool with a pq, the parts are identicle. Less now owned by x Bass pro guy. Not stated anywhere but less made by pure fishing. Abu also. Actually it's not less, it's more. It's a Lews, owned by Lynn Reeves. Hootie Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted July 30, 2013 Super User Posted July 30, 2013 Yep your right. Stupid autocorrect on my ASUS pad. Less definitely does not equal Lews. I did not mean to call it less. ha ha That made me laugh. Glad you have a good sense of humor...lol Hootie Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted July 30, 2013 Super User Posted July 30, 2013 Anybody else curious as to why he paid $160-$180 for a $100-$120 rod? I just bought one for $99.95 Quote

CxThree Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 Thanks everyone. I am taking them out on Saturday for their first trip but I played around with a practice weight in the yard last night. These reels feel great and seem to cast very well. Quote
CxThree Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 Took these out for a test today and WOW. They performed great. The only time I had trouble was throwing the KVD 1.5 square bill stuff with one of these. I think its just a bit light for my talent level. The heavier stuff was much easier to cast. Quote
mikeeasttn Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I have never owned a Pro Qual Bait Caster but know many in my area that fish with them. All who use them swear by them and I see nothing but great reviews on them. This was the reason for my decision to purchase one. I purchased a Pro Qual spinning reel for my grandson in the 50 size which is the largest spinning reel available in Pro Qual I think. He is in to fishing the large swimbaits as I am and has trouble with back lashes with a BC. Had him a custom 8' swimbait spinning rod made and put Suffix 832 80# on his reel and the reel has given no trouble so far throwing the big heavy baits up to 12". Also the reel is very smooth when retrieving the baits and is still very tight after last season and this season. Unfortunately he has not caught anything over 8.5# so far so drag has not been really tested either. Quote
CxThree Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Just wanted to share my feedback. After a few weeks of fishing with these, I am hooked. What a great combo. I even went back and got a 4th with a heavy rod. They cast great, are light, have very smooth mechanics, and seem to be a great value. I've never used a high end Shimano so I don't know what a $300+ reel feels like but I can't imagine much better feeling that this one has. The combo price makes it a hard one to pass up. Quote
