das028 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I have a old lews speed spool model BB-1, that I stripped down to clean tonight. I'm pretty sure I'm a little over my head now! All the parts are in a solvent right now, as the thing has never once been cleaned or lubed since its been made. I decided to bring it back to life, throw it on a rod and fish it this year. I made sure I took pics with my phone as I tore it down, but quickly noticed I missed a lot. Do any of you know of a link or anywhere I can get directions for a detail strip? A parts schematic or layout would be helpful too? Any suggestions? I did a search and couldn't find anything, but I didn't dig to deep. I plan on getting it back together tomorrow after work tomorrow because its getting kinda late hear on the east coast, so I'm gonna call it a night and let that solvent get all that old grease and grime off all the small parts. I'm almost positive it's gonna give me fits tomorrow so anything helpful would be appreciated. Gotta say this is a really cool reel. It's what I used to learn how to throw a baitcaster as a kid. It was one of my dads only baitcasting freshwater setup a as well. He was partial to spinning gear. The thing is built like a tank, and has tremendous sentimental value to me, so I'd really like to get it running well again Quote

Mikey Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I have one also bought it when they came out ..... I was told back in the late 90's nobody has parts for the old Shimano Speed-Spools. Great reel and yes it was very well constructed. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted July 31, 2013 Super User Posted July 31, 2013 I have a BB-1 also. Bought it new and registered it--(yes I'm old). Lew Childre sent me a set of weights to go on the spool brakes to better control backlash. The only parts I have replaced is the level wind pawl and anti-reverse dog. It is still in good condition.
