aqualkinbush Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 So I cleaned up, re-greased, and re-oiled my Quantum Smoke baitcasting reel yesterday for the first time. (I'v done basic cleaning and oiling but never broke it down to this extent before) I watched glenns recent video and the videos he linked to on the process. However I went fishing this morning and lost a good fish because when I tightened down my drag the reel handle was difficult to turn. This was not a problem before. Any ideas what I may have done or suggestions for what i could try to do to fix this would be greatly appreciated. I even used Quantums Hot Sauce Grease and Lube. Quote
Super User Solution .RM. Posted July 29, 2013 Super User Solution Posted July 29, 2013 Starting point, I would recommend getting the schematic out and checking the way you stacked the crank assembly.Leave one washer out in the drag spring part of the stack, thats between the AR bearing pack and the drag star, and the crank will sometimes bind when the drag star is adjusted tight. Never brake a reel down without the schematic in front of you.. Good Luck & Tight Lines 1 Quote
aqualkinbush Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 thanks I'll get out the schematic and break it back down and see if i went wrong somewhere. Quote
aqualkinbush Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 So i went and broke it down again this time with the schematics right in front of me and realized I had a part on backwards (part of drag system) corrected that and it's working good as new. Thanks guys. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 30, 2013 Super User Posted July 30, 2013 Could have been that you put one of those tiny washers on backwards. Sometimes they have a slight curve in them and if you happen to put the wrong side down it messes up the entire reel. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted July 30, 2013 Super User Posted July 30, 2013 Never brake a reel down without the schematic in front of you.. As Mike (DVT) and I stated, it is the number 1 rule in reel servicing.... Glad you found the trouble.. Tight Lines! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 30, 2013 Super User Posted July 30, 2013 I'll bet the drag spring washers were installed nested: (( instead of opposing, like this: () Quote

aqualkinbush Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 Well at least I learned some things from this. First never disassemble a reel without the schematics in front of you and I pretty much know this reel inside and out and could probably break it down and re-assemble it in my sleep. Quote
