Do you guys know of any other weedless soft swimbaits besides huddlestons?

You can rig several swimbaits weedless.

I've been playing with the Sebile Soft Magic Swimmer. Looks great in the water and can be worked decently in the weeded bays. Have only caught one small bass on it thus far, but I've only just started with this bait.

Ones I like:

RI Skinny Dippers

American Trash Fish

Lake Fork Magic Shad

Keitech Fat Swing Impact

All can be rigged on an open hook swimbait jig or with a keel weighted hook like the Owner Beast.

I think a lot of confusion exists as to the definition of "swimbait". A 3" curly tailed grub on a 1/8 oz. ball head jig - could be considered a swimbait. ALL crankbaits....could be considered swimbaits. I just wish the fishing community would clarify the differences, into classifications of swimbaits, so that all of us could better understand the presentation nuances. Ugh!  I wrote that! LOL!

I know some people disagree with me, but I find that the most general consensus is something that, basically looks and swims like a fish. Here is a picture of some of my stuff that I dont think anyone would argue that something here is not a swim bait, maybe with the exception of the mouse. They don't have to be 17 inches and weight 2 lbs (obviously exaggerating making fun of some of the guys that get caught up on size), there is some pretty small stuff in this picture but generally they do tend to be on the larger sizephoto_zps04baa3f9.jpg

Youre 100% right. To me the term swimbait means something that looks like forage in a lake.

grubs and cranks are not swimbaits. They do not swim. IMHO, a true swimbait is a soft or hard bait that somewhat realistically imitates and/or looks like a fish. A "big bait" to me is 8"+ and over 3oz.

The definition of a swimbait is a bait that swims side to side. Most crankbaits wobble and don't swim unless you reel them VERY slow.

yeap a SWIM jig is really not a swim jig at all........but I digress.

Nice variety of swimmers. The Lunker Plunkers and rat are wake baits, the SWaver is a jointed glide bait that is hard to pigion hole as a swimmer.

The legacy joined plugs like the Wiggle Fish and Jointed Pikie minnow would fall into today's swimbait category: they swim at very slow retrieve speeds. One of the first swimbaits was the Saasy Shad soft plastic boot tail type swimmer that dates back into the 70's.

You could just as easily ask what is a crankbait? When started bass fishing in the 50's crankbaits were called plugs.

Tom

PS; is that a Mother side swimmer?

Tom you bring up another great point in the confusing of swimbaits the fact that there are so many different types of action, there are walk the dogs types, wakers, divers, swimmers, boot tail, paddle tail, and many more including the ever popular glide style swimbaits. I tend to agree with you that things like the punkers are not swimbaits but the great majority of the swimbait community disagrees with me on that so I have given up that fight. As far as my roman made no it is not a mother, it is a negotiator which is the little brother to the mother, identical in everyway except it is only 7 inches instead of 12

Negotiator 7" side swimmer, need to look into that, thanks. I have had good results in the past with 7" Triple Trouts when the larger hard jointed swimmers didn't get results. I know Butch signed a deal with Roman with a 12 side swimmer, now all we need is stocked hatchery trout to resume agian, so we can get back to using swimbaits!
