Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 I've used Gamakatsu hooks for a few years, and I've had zero problems. I've looked at the Trokar hooks, and find it very difficult to pay three times as much as my Gammies. Falcon Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 O. Mustad & Son A.S. is the world's leading manufacturer of fish hooks Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 Stick with owner or gammies. Quote
Gangley Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Owners and Gammy's for me. Although, several of the jigs I use have Mustad hooks in them and they have held up very well. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 I use different hooks from different manufactures that work best for me. Say treble hooks for example? Cranks or topwater that are on lighter line I use Daiichi death traps. Now heavy line or larger baits nothing beats Owners. I admit to buying a lot of expensive baits and tackle but those Trokar hooks aren't worth what they are charging. Allen Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 I just received new Mop jigs from GMAN with 5/0 TroKar Hooks. These are the sharpest hooks I have ever seen. Amazing! http://www.lazertrokar.com/ 8-) Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I've been messing around with those Trokars and I have to say I have never seen a sharper hook. The weight of a 3/4 oz jig put that hook point into the side of my thumb by weight alone. I have fished X points(one of the best), Owner, Gamies, Mustad, and others. There are alot of great hooks on the market and most will do what we expect. There are pros and cons with each hook imo. You have to search for what fits your style the best. I generally dont rip on companies, but I will not waste $ on those BPS XPS hooks again. :-X Quote
BassCats Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 You forgot to add a category: Other I have started using H2O hooks, by academy sports. They are just as sharp as the others and just as strong. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 I've used Gamakatsu hooks for a few years, and I've had zero problems. Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 owner hooks are by far the best hooks , with the cutting points , no one comes close .... Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 I fish all different brands of hooks, I prefer Gammies or Owners but I also fish some BPS hooks, Mustad, and Hookerz Tackle. For the price, the Hookerz hooks are wonderful, I really like them and will be making other orders. I chose Owner because of the Mosquito hooks and Stinger trebles. Quote
WoolleyBass Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 There is nothing better then my gammies! Roby Quote
Big Tom Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 For the price, the Hookerz hooks are wonderful, I really like them and will be making other orders. I really like what Hookerz has going too. I didn't expect that kind of quality for such a good price. I chose Owners. Super sharp and extra strong. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 Depends on the actual hook. Owners for the most part. I also like VMC trebles, when I can't find Stingers. The Gamakatsu Split Shot/Drop Shot hooks in #1 are the best I've found for this. So are their Wide Gap Finess in 1/0 for Senkos. Quote
Jake. Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Trokars are made by Eagle Claw. Owners are my favorite, I used Gamakatsus until the points started bending too often. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 I would have voted other, because I've been spending the money on Owners, but for almost half the price, the Moaners are a much better value, and great quality. Exactly what I need to feed my need. Gammy and Mustad are good, too. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 23, 2010 Super User Posted July 23, 2010 Trokars are made by Eagle Claw. Owners are my favorite, I used Gamakatsus until the points started bending too often. I doubt it. They may be marketed under the same umbrella, but I suspect they are manufactured independently. 8-) Quote
Super User 5bass Posted July 23, 2010 Super User Posted July 23, 2010 I knew better than to click on this thread. ;D Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 23, 2010 Super User Posted July 23, 2010 gamakatsu and owners for me. i like VMC's trebles so i voted for them too. Quote
okiefisher8 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I prefer Owners. Gamakatsu comes in a close second though. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted July 23, 2010 Super User Posted July 23, 2010 . I generally dont rip on companies, but I will not waste $ on those BPS XPS hooks again. :-X Right on. They suck eggs through a straw. Quote
David Rangel Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Mustad, Gamakatsu and Owner, I like the owner "J" hook in 1/0 and 5/0 almost all my specialized hooks are owner like weed less wacky, sled head, shakey head, I like Gamakatu EWG in 2/0 3/0 superline 4/0 Superline and 5/0 and mustad 37177 in 2/0 to4/0 those are little bit larger from the point to the eye and give more space for short strikes! Nibbles Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I've been using Gamakatsu octopus circle hooks, and love them. I also have been experimenting with BOSS shakey heads, which have mustads on them, and I think the hooks are pretty darn sharp. I may experiment with Owner since so many of you seem to love them. Gangley Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Owners. They come sharp, and stay sharp, fish after fish after fish. Owner, Gammy, then Mustad Quote
