does anyone use any Fenwick rods I see them at my local tackle shop but didnt give them much thought. If you have used them are they 1 lightweight and 2 Strong

I have owned and used the GT and HMX. Both of them I really liked but braid ate the tips.

I held an elite tech smallmouth spinning rod a while back and really liked the feel. I might have to pick one up, those guides are braid-proof.

Quite a few guys on here use the Fenwick Elite Tech and The Fenwick HMX. I do know that Slonezp is a big fan of the Fenwick rods, he is a guy on here whose opinion I really respect.

I have a 7 ft MH/F Techna AV that I use for all bottom contact plastics.

I really like it . It is extremely sensitive and surprisingly light for a rod rated up to 1 1/2 oz

I believe it was discontinued about 3 yrs ago but you may find one.

You won't be disapointed.

For a discontinued rod check our sponsors first in there clearance sections. Then I would check the auction sites. For new I'd go with a sponcer here or your local tackle shop.

Were you looking at casting or spinning and for what techniques. I have a few discontinued fenwick rods and a few of the elite tech rods. I wont comment on the discontinued rods since you can't find them anymore.

As far the elite tech series goes keep in mind fenwick built the rod line for species specific presentations. The smallmouth series and trout seriesfor example, aren't going to be the beefy powerhouse kind of rods that you would venture to Falcon lakes timber or Okeechobees heavy mats with ... at least for me personally. Most of the rods will surely fit your criteria of being light weight. The 6'9 ML spinning rod for sample is in the 3.? Ounce class. As far as power goes it is there but the rod line was built for smaller baits and more of the under a 1/2. Another strong point of the rod line is the lifetime warranty and above average sensitivity for a rod that retails for $129ish.

I have been using their rods dating back to the mid 90s and the elite tech series rods since last summer. For what you pay for the rod it is hard to find much to complain about.

Another guy to talk with about the Smallmouth series is smalljaw.  He talked me into getting one....but I wound up buying 2 casting rods...the 6'9" MXF and 6'10" MF.  Used the MF rod every time I went out after receiving it last year.  Mine is paired with a Curado 51E.  This is a great combo.

Took the MXF out tonight with a Zillion 100SHLA and 12# mono on it.  Tied on a KVD Sexy Dawg Jr. to see how I would like it for that technique.  Had been using a Fast rod.  I really liked this combo.  Was throwing over halfway across the river.  Further than I was expecting from an Extra Fast action.

Obviously I couldn't get any feedback tonight on sensitivity, but I will throw anything within its weight range on the MF.  It seems pretty sensitive to me.  I like them better than the highly tooted *** Black rods.

I am going to pick up one of smalljaw's favorite rods in the series....the 6'10" MH Med-Fast.  He likes it well enough to have 2 of them.  He is one of the guys on here that I trust.  On his recommendation, I bought a rod from a well known company that many don't consider to be high end.  I wasn't disappointed with that purchase either.  :teeth3:

I have 2 of the Techna AV casting rods, a MH and M.  These are excellent (and under-rated by many) rods.  I know of at least 2 for sale in the classifieds.

I don't think you would be disappointed with either series.  I recently received an older HMG rated 1/8-1/2 oz.  It had been paired with the TD-Z 105H that I also bought.  This combo will throw a 3/16 oz. spinnerbait nearly as far as a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait on a MHF rod.

EDIT:  As kickerfish noted, the Smallmouth series rods are not offered in a Heavy model.

I recently bought the Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth M-XF 6'9" rod, and I love it.  The price is right, it has a lifetime warranty, it's very light and has felt very sensitive so far.  It feels well built, which sealed the deal for me.  I would definitely buy it again, if I had the choice.

You wont find a good swimbait rod in the series. For cranks and reaction baits there would be a couple choices as well as bottom contact apps. Again you wont find any really powerful rods in the series for bigger jigs and heavy Texas rigs.

kickerfish1 beg to differ, the Fenwick Aetos line has what he's looking for.  I have a H/F I use for heavy jigs, I will probably be getting a MH in a couple more months.  Very good rods and perform just as well and slightly better sensitivity than the Elite Techs.  They have the same blanks as the Elite Techs, but different resin.

I have the Aetos 7' 2" MH/XF rod and absolutely love it. Light sensitive and plenty of backbone. I use it for swim jigs and spinner baits. I have been very surprised. All the guys at our local tackle shop loves the rods and highly recommend them.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was only referring the elite tech line up.

I understand, no harm or no offense was just clarifying out he was asking in general about Fenwick rods.  I just think the Aetos rod is a sleeper and I like them a lot as well as my Smallmouth Elite Techs.  I own BC of each line and Spinning of each line.  I do like the Aetos BC rods better though than the ETs, the handle seems more comfortable to use and fish with.  Still not a knock on the ETs.  Anyway, to the OP you won't be disappointed, but be sure to check'em out ultimately as they maybe great for me..for you, you may have a different preference.  They are sensitive, strong and light.

I'm a huge fan of the new Fenwick elite Tech Smallmouth and Aetos rods, I own a couple of custom rods as well as some other high end rods but I can no longer afford to get high end rods and still have money left for other tackle. This money situation was killing me and I didn't know if I could ever find an affordable rod that performed like I wanted, well that was until the Elite Tech smallmouth series came out. I got the spinning rod, 6'9" M-XF first, I got it directly from Fenwick as it still wasn't available from retailers but if I waited the waters would be iced over and I would have had to wait a few months so I paid a little more but I wasn't disappointed. The first trip with the spinning rod blew me away, it was late October and we were catching light biters on a finesse shaky head in 26 feet of water using Silver Thread AN40 line in 8lb test and I had no problem feeling light bite or bottom...With mono yet. I then got the 6'10"MH-MF casting rod, this was going to be used for shallow cranks, maybe some mid depth stuff but once I had it on the water I just couldn't get over the action, here was a rod that had a fast tip, it was basically a fast action rod but as soon as I hooked up I was getting the fish near the side of the boat and it turned to make a run, I figured the hooks were going to pull but the rod gave up a little more than I thought it would and kept the fish pinned. That rod has replaced my G.Loomis JBR752C, and that isn't a knock on that rod, in fact I didn't think there was a finer jerkbait rod than that Loomis until I used the Fenwick. What makes it great is you have total control over the bait your fishing, to me it is important, especially with jerkbaits, I tried fishing them on cranking style rods and it was hard as I felt I had to wait on the rod before I could make another jerk and it would throw off my cadence but not this rod, it has the backbone and tip of a fast action rod but it has more forgiveness but not really parabolic, it is a true moderate fast. I had to get a 2nd one as I haven't found a better rod for lipless cranks, topwaters and square bills plus my favorite, jerkbaits!! I just got my Aetos casting rod, 7'2" MH-XF, the first time out I was pitching 5/16oz finesse jigs I make, thin Eakins type jigs, I was putting these jigs in little spots with ease and once again, excellent sensitivity as I was using 16lb copoly line and I was able to tell whether I was on wood or rock, I truly am happy, I seriously doubt you can get any better for less than $200 and just wait, the HMG was just redone with the SK2 reel seat along with a redesigned lighter blank and a lifetime warranty at $99.00, I'm going to grab one as a spinnerbait rod!!
