This season I got back into bass fishing after a few years hiatus, I picked up a field & stream combo from dicks with a field & stream rod and shimano caius reel. Fishing from the bank today I snapped the tip off my rod rushing to get a fish out of the water that I thought was poorly hooked. Don't know what I was thinking as I never ever rip a fish out of the water by the tip but whatever, time to go rod shopping  :respect-059:

Loving the sport more than I ever have, and was planning on getting a Powell Endurance rod in a few weeks anyway. The Model I am looking at is the Endurance 723 CEF. Its a 7'2 MH/Extra Fast, Is this a good rod for all around fishing? I will be throwing texas rigged plastics, spinnerbaits, spooks, buzzbaits, just all around fishing. I plan on getting another setup, but for awhile this will be my only rod. Im asking because 7'2 seems to be a few inches longer than the average "all around" rod, and I have never fished with an extra fast taper or anything longer than 6'10.

It will be paired with my shimano caius until I have the funds to get the pinnacle im drooling over =D

Couldn't have picked a better general purpose stick.  A MH will let you do everything you have stated.  I would suggest 40lb Braid as your base line and attach leaders when necessary.  Braid floats like mono but is more sensitive.  Attach a fluoro or mono leader as needed and it will last you longer as well.

As for the length, you will get used to it.  You will find that a longer rod will really help you with line pickup and hook setting etc.  Once you get used to it, you shouldn't have any problems.

Great stick! Get one.

Get it. Fish it. Enjoy it. Powell makes an excellent rod and the 723 is one of my favorite.

I own 3 723's and just sold a max 703 plus I have a few diesel models. It's a great rod. I have one still in the wrapper if you're interested in it.
