So I was fishing my normal spot yesterday with a 7 inch senko and was getting no bites, went at it with 2 different colored senkos and some other fake crawlers and got nothing. Moved to a different spot and put a senko back on texas rigged and tried a different method. Instead of pulling the rod tip up to move it and letting it sink, I would just jerk the reel.

Example:

Reel (quick) half a rotation, stop, half a rotation, stop, half a rotation, stop. I got hits on it, but couldn't land anything as they were small or i was pulling it out of their mouths, here's what happened.

I was 3 feet from the shore and just pulling my senko out of the water to re cast, out of no where this absolute HOG attempts to grab my lure. He comes out of the water and lands back in sideways, this was the biggest bass i've ever seen in person. Literally thought about suicide for not leaving my senko in the water for 2 more seconds...

Anyway, just wanted to share with ya'll that new method. It seemed to work for getting bites/interest in it when the usual method doesn't work. Anyone else work it like this before?

Twitching a senko is one way I like to cover water. I treat it like a jerkbait in between drops to the bottom. Killer technique!

no wrong way to fish it!

and don't kill yourself......but if you are thinking about it, seek help.

Yep. It is another way of fishing the Senko or any other plastic.

Don't you just hate when what happened to you happens to you?

That is a bummer.

An event made for nightmares.

But you know where she hangs out so go back and try to catch her and post a pic.

Right now she is laughing at you and being an umpire NOTHING LAUGHS AT YOU!!!

Never tried that, but I bet it would work where I fish also! I will try it next time out.

Was that big one on those giant sticks I traded you? Guess it was worth the trade then, at least you got to see him!

I twitch it with the brass bead ticker. Now remember what I been posting about when I get a strike and a miss with a senko type bait. I stay calm like a heart surgeon and give that senko a shot of bass scent and toss it right back in so that big gal has another wack at it. It's a 99% hookup on the second cast. Just repeat the second cast exactly like the first. Trust me I do this over and over.

I just purchased 5/0 & 6/0 weedless hooks for my BPS super sized 7 1/4" fat stick o worms.

I had a similar experience with a hog that was my new state record I been on the hunt for. She had my 7 1/4" super sized stick o worm with a 3/0 hook in it. The 3/0 hook was all I had to use. I seen her in the shallows 4' away from me with the stik o in her mouth. Now do I wait or try to set the hook. I prayed while I set the hook. She spit it and off she went. She has been swimming in front of me were the drop off is. I seen her before as I landed fish.

I reworked a spinner bait into a killerbait. I changed the blade size, skirt size and tried a trailer setup New to me. I didn't record anything. After proving many bass liked it I made one more cast. A 30" chain pickerel came out of the water parallel to

shore at the very edge and just ripped it off my line with one head shake. He liked it more than I needed It. I just stood there in shock and awe.

Trust me I feel your pain. I do not like missing the bigger bass.

Here I am deep in the woods at a spring fed pond. I seen the black lines in the water moving right away. I realized these lines were big bass. I casted out a rebel humble bee and hooked a sunny quite a distance out. As I got it near me a big bass swam over to grab it as I lifted it out of the water. Stupid me I didn't realize it quick enough that she was going to eat it. I would of hesitated.

We learn something on every trip.

That is the way i normally fish my stick baits and have landed many a hog only i don't use the reel, just short twitches with the rod tip and by short, i mean a few inches at the most.

Bummer about losing the fish but it happens and when it does you know where she lives and also when she likes to feed too which is always the second part of the equation after locating the fish.

Good luck!!

I been wondering using a senko type bait with a Carolina rig is there a way to keep the senko floating? I'm thinking to let the weight stir up the bottom a little and use the senko like you did with a slow reel letting the senko twitch. What can I attach to the leader to make the senko float.

i love experimenting with diff retrieves.  every new/creative trick leads to more hooked bass. many on this site swear by trying 7+ different retrieves during 1 cast.  and make sure you note which one you got bite on to duplicate.

sounds like the technique you needed to land that hawg was a reel, reel, reel, sweep!

Sounds like a Fluke retrieve. Maybe they were telling you they wanted it faster? That's why we all love fishing!

I sometimes fish soft & hard jerkbaits with a similar retreive. Just using the reel handle with quick bursts to impart action without moving the rod.

Hmmm.....curious, how would that be any different than using your rod tip to twitch it off the bottom?

It's more of a herky jerky type action in a straight line. Try it & see.

OK....I will. Still have my doubts though. :)
