I'm kinda new to the deep cranking style of fishing and iv noticed iv been missing alot of fish right at the boat. I have been throwing a strike king 5XD that I took straight out of the box and went fishing. Now that I have gained confidence in this technique I'm looking to upgrade my hooks to get a little better hook ups.

So what's your favorite crankbait hook?

I use lots of aftermarket replacement trebles, I like Mustad, Owner, and Gamakatsu. It just depends on the bait mostly as to what I'll switch to. IMO I'd go with Mustad KVD Triple Grips in size #2 for your 5XD. Make sure you get the 1X strong 2X short hooks though as Mustad has a few different KVD trebles available.

I am a big fan of matzuo sickle trebles on moving baits. It seems once they get hooked it is harder for them to throw it. They are also very sharp, but not as sharp as a gama or owner so I do hit them with a hook sharpener when I tie the lure on. I bought some 4 or 5 years ago off captain hooks discount warehouse for something like $8 per 100. I bought 100 of #6, #4, and #2. I'm not sure you can even buy them anymore, but if you happen to see them somewhere give them a shot.

I would also suggest #2 for a 5xd.

Are you going up one size larger? I went up one hook size on some of my smaller lures. I did make a difference but we must be careful the added weight doesn't affect the lures action.

I use KVD Triple Grips ....I usually go one size up from whatever the crankbait comes with....It has made a big difference in my hook-ups... and the trebles are very sharp.... I change out all my crankbaits to the better treble hooks..

Tight Lines....guys
