noway Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Music sometimes. I use a bluetooth speaker (JBL Micro wireless) paired to my phone. It's about the size of a hockey puck with decent sound. Some free smart phone apps. out there for radio. (iheartradio) Quote
Traveler2586 Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 I agree with Rambler. I don't have a stereo in my boat and I do not want to listen to yours. Sound carries a long distance over water. There are few people on the water who want to listen to whatever is coming from your boat. If you have to listen to music or the radio while you fish, get headphones. X2 on the headphones, I've seen other anglers using headphones and in my mind I thank them for their consideration, if I catch their eye I give them a friendly smile and wave. Quote
pbizzle Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Seems like a good idea. I would love to be able to listen to "Set the Hook with Pat Rose" on the water. Quote
martintheduck Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Just chiming back in.... I was glad to have a stereo of some kind. The bite was dead all day today and by the time 6:30 rolled around I was wiped. Pulled into a calm cove with no one around, turned on some hendrix, dangled my feet off the back and just relaxed. Last hour of my trip was just a "relax and do nothing on the water." Glad I have some kind of speakers. Quote

Headphones could be a death wish on the lakes I fish. if you don't catch a 30-50ft boat plowing water past you in the distance and are not ready for the big rollers you may be in the water head first. Music at a good level to hear but hear other things around you as well best bet where I fish. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted July 29, 2013 Super User Posted July 29, 2013 yes without question. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 29, 2013 Super User Posted July 29, 2013 I sometimes bring a small transister radio with me to listen to baseball or football games, if I'm fishing for fun. Sometimes I like to kick back and relax while having a snack as well, and some music off my phone is nice. What I can't stand are the wakeboats towing a skier, and blasting whatever god awful music from those goofy tower mounted speakers. Why on earth does someone need a PA system on a small boat? 1 Quote
martintheduck Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 My pet peeve - on my lake there are MANY houses... during the summer, the kids take out the pontoon and just blast rap music. It's aweful. Quote

BKeith Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 All the radio in my truck is used for is a clock. There is no way in h*** one is going to be played in my boat. If someone had one and turned it on, they had better know how to swim. Part of my enjoyment fishing is the peaceful solitude. On rare occasions I've had pontoon boats come into a cove I'm fishing with their music blasting, I crank up and move. Needless to say, I'm not a music person. A nice stereo and some good, easy listening, instrumental when I'm at home, just sitting back in my recliner is ok, but even then, I don't want to hear no singing in it. And that's the only time I ever listen to it and those times are rare. Quote

tracker01 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Nope. I am on the water to get away from all the noise. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 30, 2013 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 30, 2013 Having Sirius radio (stereo) in my boat was a requirement. Now I can fish and not miss any NASCAR races. Yes, I listen to music too, but sometimes I like to have it off and just listen to the sounds of nature. Whatever mood suits me. Yes, I have my cell phone with me at all times. Caller ID let's me know whether or not I want to take a call while I'm out on the water. But it's a must-have safety device in my mind. Quote
cbass12 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Our boat has a stereo but we only listen to music when we're anchored out swimming and drinking beer, never when I'm fishing. The only time the radio is on when I'm fishing is to listen to the royals games. Quote
BrianSnat Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I almost always bring my iPod and a small battery operated speaker and listen to music while I fish. I'm usually fishing in NJ so it's not as if I'm among the sounds of nature. The FAA sees fit to route flights over the lake region so it's the sound jets overhead and the distant sounds of automobiles, or my music. I'll take the latter. If I was on a remote Adirondack lake it would be a different story. About the only time I'm not listening to music is at night if I'm using topwater. Hearing the sounds around me is important when using topwater. The sound of the lure working properly, the sound of fish feeding on the surface, the sound of something hitting my plug. So then the music is off. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 31, 2013 Super User Posted July 31, 2013 What gets me is someone that wants to have a conversation about nothing. . You've met my ol' lady. "How's the fishing? mikeg Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I have a little transistor radio. I usually have it on but the volume is usually low enough that I can't hear it when I'm moving the boat from place to place. Keep in mind, I'm moving with an electric TM! mikeg Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 31, 2013 Super User Posted July 31, 2013 Cell phone yes, radio or stereo no. Quote
PotomacBassin Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 What's the etiquette on tournaments and music. My coangler started playing his radio during the last two tournaments and for me it makes it hard for me to concentrate. He did ask if it bothers me, but I politely said no. Quote

BenB54 Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Yes, when I upgraded my electronics I was talked into adding a lowrance sonic hub. I don't regret it one bit. I don't always use it, but I definitely enjoy it when I do. Quote
lanzbass Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I tell the kids as soon as we turn on the road to were we are heading to fish, " turn off all music we are almost their". we came to enjoy the outdoors fish and relax not sing and dance on the boat.. carry a cell phone on me in a Ziploc bag for a just in case something goes wrong Quote
