I hear they aren't bad as far as throw away reels go. Use it til the plastic clutch breaks then buy another.

If you get a Lews, and when you get ready to throw it away, I'll take it off your hands :)

I have a Super Duty, yes LMG now owns a Lews reel. It's a nice reel, nothing in comparison to my E series Shimanos, but still nice. I have it mounted on a Carbonlite rod. Doing a trial on the reel. Only reason of purchase was that I got a killer deal on it, and the new Chronarch is going to be a flop. This reel is going to be my new "beater" so I can save my Shimanos for tourney duty. It's a little Grundy on the retrieve with 17# Sufix Siege, but after a good few months of use I will tear it down and tune it. Hopefully it will perform a little better.

Send it back it's not right, mine is smoother than my Calcutta's and I use it for 16 to 20 foot diving 11" 7.5 oz Musky cranks on 50lbs 832! They will fix or send you one that's not grundy!! No better CS out there!

I have a tournament and the regular speed spool..There is a big difference in quality.. My next one will be the tourney pro.. I am a lews believer now it will be hard for me to switch brands now

Has anyone been fishing the current line of Lews reels? What are your honest thoughts? I've been throwing the Tournament Pro and the Super Duty models for a while now - and I can't ever see me using something else again, EVER. I hear guys raving about the Revos and many other type reels, but I've also read a few articles where die-hard Abu and Shimano guys are making the switch as well. Its clear that Lews reels are back, but I'm personally curious to see how popular the current models will get. Has anyone had any bad experiences with this line? I throw 6"-9" Swimbaits on the Super Duty and have caught 10-20lb Striper, no problem. They're really great reels...

I have bought 2 Speed Spools recently..One in 5.4:1  and one in 6.4:1 I LOVE them.  As long as they are putting out this quality reel I will never buy another brand. They are fantastic!

I bought a tournament speed spool as my first baitcaster and I love it. I know I haven't tried other brands but I'm going to have a hard time leaving to a different brand.

I never thought there was a big difference between the Tournament  and regular speed spool.

but there is a HUGE difference between the tournament  and tournament  pro, IMO

My dad and brother recently bought Lew's Tournament MG reels and they feel real nice! Extremely smooth but the casting didn't impress me much at all. My brother runs 30lb Power Pro Super 8 on his and my Quantum Energy (with 12lb p-line) throws much better. It could be the line that made the difference, but I wasn't impressed all that much. That reel is crazy smooth, but I'll personally sacrifice fluidity for better casting. The knobs are also starting to peel on both of them which is a shame cause the fit in the hand nicely.

I was also playing around at Cabela's today with an STX and Tournament Pro, I think I liked the feel of the STX better. I was considering the Tournament Pro but am leaning to the STX after fiddling with em both a bit.

I'll be getting a chronarch 200e soon to compare to my tourney pro.

I like my tourney pro, but its not perfect. My main issue with it is the centrifugal brakes can be really overpowering and I always have to put a tiny bit of oil on the brake race. (even when using only 1 brake on)

Got a Tournament Speed Spool, Tournament Pro. Soon going to add a BB1 to the arsenal. I haven't tried every reel out there but I feel like I have tried enough to decide that I'm sticking with Lews from now on.

I agree. the TSS is a nice reel but I just got a TP and wow. There is definitely a difference there.

Add me to theTournament Pro fan list. Once you get it set correctly it casts really really well. I do believe that there are better reels out there, but at a much higher price point so for me I am more then satisfied with the TP.

Bought my like new TP from a member here.  I would buy a couple more if I could find them at that price.

I just bought a TP (like 5 mins ago) and I cant wait to see hows it turns out.  This will be my first Lew's and im ready to see if it lives up to the hype.  Going to see how it compares to me Chronarch this weekend.

I have a Lew's Speed Spool on my spinnerbait rod. It was finicky to set it properly and backlashed a lot at first but now that I have it set right and rarely throw anything else on it I can cast it a mile and really like it. It's been a great reel for $100 but it has started making some noise on the cast recently after a couple years of use. I'm sure once I send it in to get cleaned this winter it will be good as new.

I find the tourney pro to be kinda finicky for some lures and it takes a while to set the brakes right, but for more arrow-dynamic lures like swimbaits and jigs it will cast a mile easily.

I have caught a 6lber, a 7lber and several 5's and it has held up great. My h20 mettle broke after a 8-9 lb bass and a 30 lb carp. I have went through 3 h20 reels and they just can't hold up, either the spool release button gets messed up or the drag/gears get messed up.

Did they flush the bearings on the lew's then reoil? Lew's are always over-oiled/greased.

Only LEWSer, is you if your still paying double for the quality you get with the Lew's,,,,more and more are finding out the Lew's delivers the performance and quality that others charge twice as much for.,,,,,been there done that!! over 90% of those who have tried one after using any of the big names reels agree, they offer a reel for every budget, and a reel to compare with anything the competition offers, but charge less than 1/2 for the same quality. Hard to find anything better than a Team Gold or Pro Gold for bass applications, and I have been there, you won't regret it.   :thumbsup1:

HAHA Man I hope you know I was joking around, I heard that statement on WFN from a LEWS guy.  I'm not a "fanboy" but because they don't offer Lews where I am, my choice is always Shimano (and I grew up with them) or BPS.  Abu Garcia just isn't the same for me.

The other thing I see Lew's needs, is to recognize lefty's more,,,,with every model they own. I love their small size, but that is something else that separates any reel from being for everyone, how any equipment feels in your hand is big, and one thing I noticed about their BB1, by getting the line guide out away from the spool farther and reducing line friction at pay out, the stretched frame would not feel as nice to me working a Carolina rig, as my Team Gold, or TP, but I do like it for constant retrieve with cranks and spinnerbaits, they made great headway offering different frame reels this past year with the BB1 and Super Duty, it will apeal to some that don't care for the feel of the smaller framed reels, I was expecting opening up more options for lefties this year,,,,, hopefully they will include reels for more users next year???? time will tell.

AMEN! I would buy any one of the reels above the TP in a heart beat, but, alas, I am a left handed cranker :cry4:
