bassking1976 Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 So went fishing this past weekend and pulled out the havoc sick fish to try and the fish went crazy bass were coming out and smashing it one about four pounds jumped outta the water to hit it. how many bass did i catch that day you ask? None!!!!! I missed six fish!!! Set the hook hard but didnt stick one stinkin fish upon further notice i saw that the hook wasnt going thru the hard body of the sick fish and the belly weight on the swimbait hook was causing issues too, i changed out the weighted hook for an unweighted monster hook but noticed the sick fish just wasnt swimming the same with out the belly weight thus no strikes. thought about slitting the belly but wasnt sure if this would affect its action. Just curious on how people are rigging these bad boys as i want to continue to keep using them but too frustrating to lose any more fish...Please Help!!!! Quote
BenBassmaster Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 I think your correct that you didn't slit the belly, now Im not so sure if it will affect the action; but I dont think it should affect the action of the bait at all. On other swimbaits (such as the the SK Shadalicious Swimbait) I always slit the belly; Which will increase hook ups. I haven't picked up the Sick fish, but I'm pretty sure slitting the belly should do the trick. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 27, 2013 Super User Posted July 27, 2013 You can add a treble hook stringer on the weighted hook. You didn't say what size Sickfish 5" or 6", So I can't say what size treble to add. Haven't fished with the Sickfish, don't have that problem with LittleCrippers Trashfish, it's a softer plastic! You might want to pause your hook set, this is a swimbait and the bass will turn with it. Tom 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 27, 2013 Global Moderator Posted July 27, 2013 This is how I rig my 4" Sick Fish. I've hooked very few fish on the regular hook but the hook up ratio is great with the belly treble and if you rig it right it can still be fished in pretty snaggy areas. The way I have the treble laying in the picture if you push the top point into the bait further it keeps the other two points close to the belly of the bait and behind the lead so it comes through stuff surprisingly well. ChrisAW Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 You're fine to slit the belly. It just gives the hook more room to move for the hookset. Even the Trash Fish, the 5 times more expensive original version of this bait, people will slit the belly to give the hook room. Quote
RandySBreth Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 That's a good rig with the treble for open water - for snaggier areas I like a 3/8-ounce or heavier weedless jighead. Weedless but you still keep the swimming action, and rarely miss a fish. Quote
swanseabass Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 What size hook would u guys use on the 3" Version?? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 13, 2013 Global Moderator Posted August 13, 2013 What size hook would u guys use on the 3" Version?? 1/8 jighead is my favorite way to fish the 3" version. It's a popular dropshot bait also. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 13, 2013 Global Moderator Posted August 13, 2013 What size hooks do you use.. The jighead is a 1/8oz with a 1/0 hook that I pour myself. If you dropshot it will just depend how you want to rig it. If you nose hook it I'd probably go with a #1, if you want to T-rig it I'd probably go with a 2/0 EWG hook texposed. Quote

Super User bigbill Posted August 13, 2013 Super User Posted August 13, 2013 I just ordered some havoc sick fish and the strike king ones too just to try. I had many strikes with the yum money minnow but no hook ups, I need a trailer hook. We do not get much for $50 color & size wise. I figure with fall conning they will earn there keep. For some reason my yum money minnows seem to lose there eyes from strikes. Quote
