Super User bigbill Posted July 26, 2013 Super User Posted July 26, 2013 Or do we just buy any rod and reel and put any size line on it? I see so many guys that have problems when casting out. I figure there line test is way beyond what line test the reel and rod was designed for. Think about it. We're wrapping a stronger line test on a smaller diameter spool. When we cast it out the stiffer line is springing off the spill rather than flowing smoothly off the spool. This does affect the distance of your cast. My question is do you use the correct line test for your reel and rod? Do you go by the specs on your rod and reel for the maximum performance? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 26, 2013 Super User Posted July 26, 2013 Well, if it's mono, fluoro or copolymer I thing it should be within the specs, but with braid you have to work with your drag adjustment. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 26, 2013 Super User Posted July 26, 2013 Yes, always. And Roadwarrior is smarter than me so he can figure out the braid. I use the braid's "equal to test" rating to match it with the rod and reel. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted July 27, 2013 Super User Posted July 27, 2013 I try to be as close as possible. I bought some 20 pound the other day, when I probably should have went with 17, but I haven't had any problems. Quote
