I just realized my local tackle shop still has one curado 51e for sale for $179. Is this a good buy or should I pass on it. Also if I were to buy it whats the re sale value on it in good condition. Is it a desired reel?

That's a good deal the used ones go for 135-140 in the flea market. The chronarch sells for 200 new and is just a white version if it. Buy it, you won't regret it.

I paid a hair more for my 50e Curado I bought earlier this year, I think 189 or so.  Curado's resell rather well, the two 50 sized on ebay are starting at 100 and 125 respectively, and your getting it brand new.

And, as stated above, you won't regret it.

That is only $20 off the MSRP.  It is worth the price, IMO, but I would try to talk him down another $20.  I love mine and would like at least one more, but hate paying that much since I got mine at $98 on closeout from ohya.  :teeth:

I've seen like new go for $155-$160.  Also seen a couple in excellent shape go for $135, but I had to pass.  Darn pesky bills!  :sad78:

I probably can't talk the people at my local tackle shop down but I do have a members card to get 10% off so it works out. I'm probably going to pay around $160 for it

For a new Curado 51e that's a solid deal at 160. If it stays at 180, thats still better than 200. Just depends on if you want it that bad. You should be able to find them used for around 130-140

160 new is a definite buy, for me at least.  My local shop wouldn't budge on price, they know what the reels worth and many are members of forums or tournament fisherman.

I'd look at it as 20% off, which is what it is, and its very hard to get a deal on Shimano gear.

If it weren't a 51, I would get you to buy it for me and ship it.  I have 3 of the 50e's and love em!  Get them supertuned by DVT and you have a super sweet reel!

51e's are harder to find than the 50's. still though you can find Chronarch 51e's for that price on the bay.

I would suggest talking him down and remind them it's an older "e" model they discontinued..

I can try but the guys at my local shop know what they have and aren't dumb

At normal price, it's a heck of a reel. Just get it and don't worry. If you're like me, you've probably wasted more money than the price difference anyhow.
