soopd Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Any grass on pickwick matted yet? Mainly between trace bridge and stateline island. Haven't had a chance to get down that way lately. Going to do some looking maybe next Monday. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 26, 2013 Super User Posted July 26, 2013 There is plenty of grass! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 26, 2013 Super User Posted July 26, 2013 I am fishing deep water, ledges, points and creek channels. The bite is EXCELLENT, but the fish are stacked. Fish spots for 15 minutes and move on until you find them, then load the boat! Quote
Brian Needham Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 in the area you stated I don't remember seeing any "matted" grass but there is TONS of grass for sure, just not matted at least where I been. Quote

Jack Fate Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Hows the best way to fish those areas of grass? I am fairly new to fishing the grassy areas, but I have had success getting fish to hit topwaters such as frogs, either ribbits or KVD Sexy Frog and also buzzbaits. A spinnerbait burned across the top of submerged grass has worked a little bit too. I have tried throwing soft plastics with some success, try and find a pocket and throw into it, give it a few bumps or pulls then retrieve and throw again. The grass is thick in a lot of places. It extends well past Natchez Trace bridge. Quote
unageo09 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I fished it around the steam plant yesterday. It was thick. Didn't catch anything but saw several small fish swimming around the perimeter of it. They weren't bass. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 10, 2013 Super User Posted August 10, 2013 I did not catch any big bass, but all my fish last weekend were caught on either a Rage Toad on top of the grass or a NorthStar Original Swim Jig (bluegill) with a Rage Tail Shellcracker along the edges. I never got a strike on several different hollow frogs and strangely, nothing on a Cavitron. My buddy fished a spinnerbait, Norman Fat Boy and several different poppers without success. Quote
Jack Fate Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Fished Pickwick Thursday on the upper end around Mcfarland to Riverfront Park/Seven Mile Island area. Caught pretty much all my fish on a Strike KIng 1/4 oz Swim Jig in either Black/Blue or Green Pumpkin with matching Rage Baby Craw. All our fish were in the 1-3 lb range. My partner caught several on a Fat Free Crankbait and a 3-2 Smallmouth on a Black/Blue jig. Quote
