CxThree Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Hello, Has anyone used these? http://www.mgs4u.com/shallow-water-boat-anchors.htm I saw them on youtube and bit on the thought. I ordered 2 of them, extensions, handles, spikes, and clips to store them in the lockers in the boat. A little over $100 for a set of 2 shipped. Shipping is steep, but that's because of the 8 foot length. $28ish for me. I know its probably not a perfect solution, but I am looking forward to trying them out and posting here. I would like to get one of the new talon 12 ft units when they release in the fall. However, I am a bit concerned that they are a bit bulky and could get int he way of my friends fishing off the rear of the boat. However, they look like a great solution. Just very pricey. Anyway. Anyone have thoughts or experience with the link I posted? Quote
Traveler2586 Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I'm looking forward to your report, I fish shallow a lot. From what I could see in the videos it looks like they will work their way out of the bottom with wind or wave action; you could see the one in use moving back and forth as the boat moved. I would also be concerned about them marring the side of a glass boat. But give it a try and let us know how you make out. Quote
martintheduck Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 This idea has been used for kayak fishing for some time. I don't see why it wouldn't work well in this type of application too. I mean, it might be kind of sketchy with a heavier boat? Update us once you get out and use em'. And another thing - be careful pulling them out of the mud. As a yak fisherman, and as a duck hunter shoving PVC decoy poles into the mud, I'll vouch these kind of things can get REALLY stuck good. Takes some good muscle to get em out. Quote
CxThree Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 The supplies should be here today or Monday. I need to make one trip to Home Depot to get the supplies to screw the 2 pieces together(I want it easy to take apart and store) and a couple of metal rings and small cord to attach them to the cleats. I should have it together and tested by the end of the week. Quote
BuckMaxx Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I was thinking about something similar the other day while up in the skinny fishing frogs over weeds.I don't use my trolling motor I use a pushpole to sneek up on them all ninja style. next year I will have a couple of talons on my boat. Quote
CxThree Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 I hear you. I'd love to put a couple of talons on the boat but I need t slow down . I've bought two boats in the last two months. Quote
jhoffman Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 no way id buy a talon, it never gets out of the way of your co angler. They already smack my light enough. 2 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 26, 2013 Super User Posted July 26, 2013 no way id buy a talon, it never gets out of the way of your co angler. They already smack my light enough. Not true. Mine is mounted on the port side and the trimmed up motor gets hit, not the Talon Quote
3dees Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 no way id buy a talon, it never gets out of the way of your co angler. They already smack my light enough. why not install it on the port side. most of my co-anglers are right handed, so theTalon would be out of the way. you would have the same problem with the Power Pole except when it's actually deployed. jhoffman Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I fish out of both sides of my boat so it could be in jeopardy at any time. Are you a left handed caster? Quote
jhoffman Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I like to fish out of the port side because I am a righty but it doesnt always happen. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted July 26, 2013 Super User Posted July 26, 2013 Very interesting! Another DIY is to use a golf ball retriever. Telescopic, lightweight. Maybe better solution for kayaking, given heavier weight/material of a boat. I use a $75 7' Stick-It Anchor pin. Believe it is made of the same material used by PowerPole anchors. They also offer a mount for using it on a boat. Quote
CxThree Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 Those of you with the Talon or Power Pole.. Do you find one of them sufficient? I would assume it creates an axis that the boat would begin to pivot around in current or wind. Does it? Quote

From what I've read on reviews and such, one pole will let the bow swing around in current or wind, like you are describing. Ideally you'd deploy 2 and get a sturdy platform. Quote
RoachDad Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I am very interested in this topic. I saw a lot of videos in very high wind and wave and the anchors stuck. I am going to order some parts and make some up for me and if they work, try to sell them. let us know what you find out. Quote
CxThree Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 You bet. I just got home and see that they made it here in one day. Wow. I will get them built tonight or over the weekend and put up some videos on them being put together. I should be out on the lake by next Friday to ty them out. Quote
BuckMaxx Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Looking forward to it... I am not a fan of having them poke up abive the motor either..my boat barely fits in my garage on the wheel wells I don't need anymore obstecles to watch for haha! Quote

Super User slonezp Posted December 4, 2013 Super User Posted December 4, 2013 I had no intentions of breaking any forum rules, if I did I do sincerely apologize. There are several threads on this forum where people discuss these types of products and I don't see how my post would be any different, but if that is the case I do apologize. Thanks for the heads up though, I am considering advertising with BassResource however. No need to apologize to me. LOL There's no self promoting here unless you pay. Welcome to Bass Resource by the way. Great site with great people Quote
