Vinny Chase Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Just want to know on the purchases and colors. I fish a clear shallow pond and a small stained lake. As far as colors are concerned for crainkbaits when you are fishing a clear lake try and think natural colors (bluegill, shiners, etc). When you fishing deeper water no matter what you want a brighter color pattern such as hot mustard or parrot (rapalas). In muddier water just think of visibility you want that fish to see that bait so go brighter. For plastics like my signature says stick to a few colors for the most part. Use watermelons and browns on sunny days with clear visibility. I tend to use the blacks and blues on cloudy days. if you are fishing a muddier water switch it up a bit and add a chartreuse tail to your plastics. Hope this help s Quote
helms83 Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 Thanks for the tips; but why blacks/blues on cloudy days? Quote
Vinny Chase Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Thanks for the tips; but why blacks/blues on cloudy days? Its a confidence thing. Most people either go bright on cloudy days so the fish can see the bait or dark so its bold. I personally have had the best luck with those colors. Quote

Overcast days =darker colors Bluebird days= lighter colors Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 I don't know...My favorite color is always "dark". Quote
Skeet22 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 What about water clarity in relation to color? I would think dark natural colors such as greens and browns would work better in Gin clear water but I know alot of folks like to throw whites and bright colors in clear water... Quote

moby bass Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Dark at night for contrast against the sky, fish eye view. I have been fishing a lake in our local park, quite muddy and stained and got 2 today on a bumble bee color grub, and 3 last week, on green pumpkin. Got 22 last week at our local pond, also very stained, almost all on 3 inch rainbow trout sluggos, worked across the top of the weeds. Go figure! Quote
guitarkid Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 you can't go wrong with a 3/8 ounce booyah spinnerbait. -gk Quote
cBooms@SML Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 the only problem i can think of is the booyah buzzbaits. all of their buzzbaits come with clackers i think, im not a fan of them. i've never caught a bass with a buzzbait w/ clacker, only plain buzzbaits. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 21, 2010 Super User Posted July 21, 2010 For jigs and plastics, black n blue, pb&j, watermelon redflake, junebug should cover the basics for most situations. Spinnerbaits, chartruse, white, or a combination of the 2. Cranks, natural colors for clear water (match the hatch) combinations of any color for stained or deep water. moby bass, You talked about bumblebee. Thought I'd share that all bumblebee colors are not the same. I fished a tourney earlier this ear with my son. He was nailing bass on a bumblebee senko type worm wackyrigged (not sure what brand) I was using a different brand couldn't get a bite. The colors were slightly different. I switched to his worms and started hooking up. I normaly feel that if you pitch your bait at the right place at the right time, just about any presentation should work. I was proved wrong. Quote
moby bass Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 True, true, in fact the bumblebee grub I was referring to was predominantly black. The point was, dark colors seem to work most anywhere and any time. Quote
