Hey guys have any one hear used a Abu Garcia ambassadeur reels for bass fishing? I just got a 5600c4 mag and was hoping to use it in freshwater

They're all I use.  5600 size is kinda overkill but will work.  I stick with the 4600 width myself.  You can really jazz them up with extra bearings and such and make them into competition casters, especially the mag version.  The C4 mag hasn't been made in awhile.  They were made for walmart not that that makes them bad, many limited runs are made for various retailers.  Just adds more versions for us collectors.

i actually got a 5600C4 a few weeks ago, its now my primary, if not my sole reel.. the size is perfect, not too small, not too big (any thinner and my thumb wouldnt fit between the frame to touch the spool), plenty of line, and incredibly strong, not only have i been catching a lot of bass with it, ive been catching a lot of pike too

I have 4 Abu's right now. Donated 3 others to my grandkids. Bought my first back in the late 60's. Easy to self maintain too. No special tools required. These reels are about as bullet proof as you can get; and can do anything with one that you can with a $400.00 reel. Best part is, you'll be passing them down to your grandkids too. :)

Another long time fan of the Swedish round  Ambassadeurs! They're the only baitcaasters I use. As others have said, they're strong, reliable and easy to work on and the round reels just seem to fit my hand better than low-profile designs. I have a 5600 C4 Mag and it's a sweet reel. I also have a 5600 WS, a 5600 CL Rocket (another made-for-Wal-mart reel), a Record 50, a pair of 4600 Cs, and a 5500 C3. I bought my first Ambassadeur in 1968 and been using them ever since.

I have over 70 Ambassadeurs from stock to full blown "Customs" with 11 bearings. They're not only great to fish with, they're easy to work on,and there are a lot of trick parts you can find on line like spools, handles, and bearing from Japan, but also factory upgrades as well.

It's been over a decade since Abu made Ambassadeurs in Sweden, they are made China. A hand full of Abu reels are still made in Sweden and you need to know someone to get one. The legacy pre 2000 Ambassadeurs are valuable, both collectors and reel repair technicians buy them.

Before the Japanese Daiwa and Shimano reels became state of the art, the 2500C, 4500/4600C and 5500C reels where the go to fresh water bass reels for decades.

I have 4 of them.  A 5000, 5600-C4, 5600-C3, and an old round black max.  The only problem I have had with them is that the pawl gives out every few years or so depending on how much you use the reel.

Interesting. I thought that most of the Ambassadeurs still have the stamp on the side "Made in Sweden". I'll have to check the C3 that I just bought.

I have a few older 5500's reels that are around 30 years old, they were the top of the line back then, and I still think there one of the most durable reel's made. They still work fine but I have put mine up in favor of smaller reels, you will do fine, and I think the 5500 series cast a little farther with the same weight lures as the narrower models. If you wait till it's wore out to buy another reel,,,,,well,,, your probably done buying reels!!_____ENJOY!! :thumbsup3:

Bad info.

The ever popular C series are still made in Sweden.   The Revos. Korea.   The BCX is the only one made in China that I am aware of.   The C's are a real value reel.

I've got a 6501c3..for catfishing. the reel is bulletproof and the bait clicker is a neat feature. i've had the reel for a long time and it still works like new. it's also probably the easiest reel to clean/service. mine also has "made in sweden" stamped on the side plate.
