MediumHeavy Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 For those of you who use hi vis braid and like to color the last bit of your line with a marker, what kind do you use? Quote
ghost Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Wide tip Sharpie. I cut a slit or 2 and run my braid through. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 25, 2013 Super User Posted July 25, 2013 Sharpie. Nothing is easier or better. Lots of colors to select among, too. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted July 26, 2013 Super User Posted July 26, 2013 Whatever you use, it will only be temporary. Nothing will stick to the line and will come off on your gear. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted July 26, 2013 Super User Posted July 26, 2013 Whatever you use, it will only be temporary. Nothing will stick to the line and will come off on your gear. Disagree there. I have used a sharpie on braid with no problems. Does it wear off over time, sure but braid without a sharpie changes color too. I have found it is easier to color after that initial break in period where the super slick coating is broken in a little bit. Quote
loudcherokee Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 What is the purpose of coloring the line? I've never done this. LC Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted July 26, 2013 Super User Posted July 26, 2013 Dry erase markers work well too. Quote
McFurie Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 What is the purpose of coloring the line? I've never done this. so the fish don't see it u could use white or neon yellow braid to make it easy on your eyes and color the end black to hide it from the fish I personally use spider wire camp braid it has like 5 colors on one string so I just cut it to the color that matches the water IM fishing IM worried Sharpie would leave a sent Quote
craww Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Spike-it pen....no negative scent like a sharpie, lasts forever (I've had my 3 pack for 5 years), and you have it on hand for plastics. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 27, 2013 Super User Posted July 27, 2013 I always use leaders with braid, no need for me to color. Hi vis color is so you can see the line, I fish by feel and a lot of my fishing is in the dark, I can't see any color line of then. Quote
jignfule Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 What is the purpose of coloring the line? I've never done this. LC Hi Vis braid may be detected by the bass easier than a darker line that's made by a sharpie. Quote

I've always assumed because black was very visible to the bass. I prefer fluoro leaders to coloring the line with ink. oe 1 Quote
MediumHeavy Posted July 27, 2013 Author Posted July 27, 2013 I fish by both feel and watching the line. Sometimes the bass pick up the bait without a bump or tick, especially weightless. So I like to watch the line as well. I haven't noticed that a leader makes a difference in terms of getting more bites, so I choose not to use one. I want to try a hi-vis braid without a leader, so I'm gonna try to color the last couple feet. Thanks to the folks who replied to my original query. I'm gonna get a couple different green sharpies and check out a spike it pen. Quote
