Best Line For Spinning Reels

I have been searching for a line that is going to work well on my spinning combo. I have braid on all of my other reels and I was looking for something with abrasion resistance. I have tried multiple brands of mono including Stren, Suffix, Trilene and BPS. Any reccomendations on any other brands of lines or any other types of lines. Thank you for your help.

Spinning reels need a low memory mono like Trilene XL not FC line. If you want to a braid with a top shot of FC like a leader, that combination works well. Berkely's Nanofil low vis green is a good choice, casts well and is quite going through the guides. You use a filler of mono and about 75 yards to Braid like Nonofil, then a Uni knot to join a 6' FC leader. Line size depends on how and where you plan to fish; 12lb Nonofil works well with 6 to 8 lb FC.

I was losing decent size bass when I first started bass fishing using my cheap Garcia

River mist mono. When I lost my last 3lb bass I said that's it. I started looking for

a better quality line. There once was a line test done at

Lurenet.com were they did bending and abrasion tests. At that

time the Excalibur silver thread performed really well. It's

a copolymer line. It has no stretch like the rubber band mono

does. I been using it ever since with success and no lost fish do to the line

I'm using. It's performance over all has been out standing.

I can fish with any decent fishing rod, I can get by with any decent spinning reel, but

line. I have tried other brands of copolymer lines that we're affordable

but they seemed stiffer when I tied my knots. Cabelas or bass pro shops had a decent

copolymere line but they discontinued it. It felt like Excalibur

silver thread too. We may pay more for the Excalibur silver thread over mono but it's good quality line. Bigbill

P-line premium cx floro coat is pretty good but I like Daiwa Samurai with a floro leader

I hooked a giant bass (for me ) on a spinning rod with a white rooster tail and lost the fish.  So I switched to 20lb braid which is the size of 8 lb mono.

 

I like it a lot.

x2 for me. I use braid on all my spinning set ups. Less head aches with line, more fishing, more fun.  Plus the sensitivity is unmatched in my opinion.

Give Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 a try. The breaking strength is 11.9 lbs.

I tried fluorocarbon on my spinning reels but didn't like it. I've tried quite a few others but pretty much stick with Trilene XL. For the money it's a decent line.  I wouldn't mind trying Yo-Zuri Hybrid but I can never find it when I think of buying line.

I've used Yo Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid UltraSoft, mono, etc., on spinning reels, didn't like how they managed. Didn't like having to always condition line with KVD's special sauce.

 

10 lb braid mainline is what I use now, hi-viz yellow, and I always tie on a leader of various poundage.

 

Braid is just that much superior than any other line (IMO & experience, YMMV) as to management on spinning gear.

I have gone to Nanofil with a mono backer and fluorocarbon leader on all of my spinning rigs. That white line is unbeatable for visibility when you are line watching, it has zero memory, stays limp and is super strong with minimal diameter. Its also way slicker for better casting and no rubbing in the eyelets on the retrieve like other braids. The flouro leader sinks and is almost invisible while preserving near zero stretch and sensitivity. The backer keeps the price per spool down. It's an awesome rig.

I use Seaguar InvizX in 6, 8, & 10lb for most applications, but mono for topwater. KVD Line & Lure on everything. And I agree with Darren, I really didn't care for Yozuri. It is VERY strong though.

Learn how not to get wind knot and Braid is the way to go.  Braid cast farther and it's diameter is smaller per pound of strength.  If you feel that fish are seeing because your water is clearer, just learn to tie a FLC leader.

 

The only time I would use mono is for Cranking because treble hook just need that extra give or they fling out.

I started with 6-8lb pline flouroclear and loved it. That line is very manageable. Then i tried braid and was amazed with the sensitivity and strength. So now, i only use 10lb braid with flouroclear leaders when necessary.

I use 10lb trilene XL on my spinning set up. I'm not a huge fan of FC on my spinning setups because of all of the memory and I don't use braid because I like a line with alot of stretch when fishing a spinning setup.

All but one of my spinning rods I use 10#Nanofill with 10#-6# Seaguar InvizX, other setup is Mono which is Berkley XT..

Fluoro is for deep, vertical, open water presentations.  Braid for weeds, shallow horizontal baits.  Add a leader of P-line CXX, from 6 to 12# size to braid for abrasion issues.

What Brand Braid are you using and what lb test???   I too do a lot of fish bass fishing, I am looking for a low stretch set up that allows me to throw light baits a long way to cover my water while looking for fish.  I fish a lot of open water, clear water, lakes for smallmouth bass at all depths.

Just a note, this was an old posting from 2013. it probably would have been better to start your own thread.

However let me start by welcoming you to the Bass Resource website. You will find lots of our members are happy to help you.

Now everyone has their favorite way of doing things. Let me share my way.  First I have my equipment and my wife's since she happens to be addicted to fishing as well. For whatever reason she has always had more line issues than me. So I have tried a bunch of different lines. Our favorite line for a spinning reel is Berkely original fused FireLine. I like to spool my reels about half full with Stren Mono say 10 pound.  Then tie a uni to uni knot and spool the reel the rest of the way up with FireLine.  To this I attach a mono or P Line CXX 10 pound leader.  The 14 pound FireLine is about the same diameter as 6 pound mono. It has no stretch and is very sensitive.  It also lasts for years. I do the same deal with the Stren as backing on all of my reels. it is good quality line so if I hit a big striper or big catfish I have no worries. It saves a bunch of money when spooling more than 25 reels between us.  The price of fluoro or braid these days makes it worth doing it that way.  If you touch the FireLine in the store you will notice i feels sorta wirey, that goes away and it softens up as soon as it hits the water and it never goes back to it again.

#6 Yo-Zuri hybrid.  Whats its secret?  It has the same line diameter as most 10# lines.  Its good stuff and not that finnicky.  Or use #6 Seaguar Tatsu and, well, be broke and in love.
