Cabbage_donkey Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Ok guys, when I'm not out on the water, I'm always tidying up my gear and tackle. Everyday I religiously and routinely organize my tackle into their perspective tackle trays, I have trays organized for every different technique or species. For eg: my steelhead tray, always contains everything I need for centre-pin float fishing, slip floats, bobber stops, micro-swivels, streamers, marabou jigs ect. Now here is my question. How many of you keep your soft plastics in their original bags? I'd like to separate all my soft plastics and put them in their own trays, ie: one box for senkos, one for jerk shads, one for power worms etc. does anyone think this will change the baits by not keeping them in the original bag? P.S when transfering baits I always were vinyl gloves, and have bio-edge scent at hand, and I do not keep them in direct sunlight. Thanks for your help on this. Mick. Quote
tholmes Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 We're supposed to organize our tackle?? Who knew? Tom 2 Quote
beergogglin Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I'm terrible at organization and that's not just tackle. I wish I were better at it. I'm an atheist too... maybe that makes a difference? ;-) Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted July 24, 2013 Super User Posted July 24, 2013 I am really OCD when it comes to organizing my stuff Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted July 24, 2013 Super User Posted July 24, 2013 My stuff is in my office. I am constantly tuning and tweaking my tacklebag to fit more in. Quote
indianabasshunter Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Always keep soft plastics in their original packaging. They will deform even without being in direct sunlight. Quote
CountBassula Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 i have this large shoe box that i keep lots of baits in (in original boxes/bags); have a 6 rod holder on my garage wall next to the gun safe; tackle box and few items i always use on the safe; a nice backpack with everything else that's a must. i don't really have a lot of stuff for fishing so this system works for me... maybe i'll post a pic later Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted July 24, 2013 Super User Posted July 24, 2013 At home I keep it neat its neat when I go out , when I'm done fishing well thats another story 1 Quote
martintheduck Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Am I OCD about organization? Kind of I suppose. I am a big fan of minimalism because if I have too much stuff, I loose confidence in what I'm using and think "maybe I should change to this color, no that color, no maybe that hardbait, no maybe that, continue ad nauseum." I haven't found any real way to organize my soft plastics very well outside of soft binders or softs bags. I do keep them in the original packages because it helps me identify them easier. Also, if I'm using one specific worm I can just keep the bag with me on deck rather than a whole plano. I still haven't taken the $ to buy binders or a few worm bags, so right now I throw them all into a one compartment hunting bag. Holds about 20 bags of any plastics. Takes a second to find what I want, but it's the best I can do right now. In the past I've been a really messy fisherman and my organization was all over the place. After the first couple of hours, the seating area looked like a crackhouse - empty drinks, couple of planos, ripped plastics, hardbaits, line...just random stuff strewn about. Since I'm running 60 mph in the new boat, I have to keep it clean or stuff goes flying. Now I keep my tackle (aside from plastics) organized very well so I can find things quickly and efficiently. My hooks and shakeyheads are all in one plano with label's for each. Weights, swivels, beads, and clips all in one plano. Jigs in one. 0-9ft cranks in a plano. 10+ cranks in a plano. Spinners in a plano. I MUST keep everything organized or I am liable to become a complete basket case while digging for "that one lure that caught that donkey of a bass." 1 Quote
The Young Gun Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 At home I keep it neat its neat when I go out , when I'm done fishing well thats another story X2!! I will rip through everything I have and waste no time on the water te organizing. That's what the night is for. 1 Quote
jason41987 Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 i left my tackle box in another state when i moved.. its in a storage unit and ill be collecting all of that gear in a few weeks, but ive just been loosely tossing all of my tackle into the glove box in my truck.. im just glad i dont fish with worms Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 24, 2013 Super User Posted July 24, 2013 Every thing that I might use in Plano plastic boxes. The "reserve" in my Man Cave on a post board. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 24, 2013 Super User Posted July 24, 2013 Soft plastics I use all the time are separated by brand/type in gallon Ziploc bags. Stuff I use occasionally is in Plano boxes. I inventory once a year before Black Friday sales and order accordingly for the following year. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted July 24, 2013 Super User Posted July 24, 2013 I've organized tackle several ways over the years. I used to keep worms in original bags, but have since switched back to using 360 sized BPS boxes that allow me to store worms up to 6" long. I keep the original bags with the ones I didn't use. Jury is out as to whether I truly like this method or not. I keep 3 boxes in a large box under my raised kayak seat (along with other gear in the box). Is easy enough to slide out the big box, pop the lid and access my JJ's magic, Megastrike, and Plano-style boxes. Before this I was using the original bags in Ziplocks along with using a BPS worm bag, with each ziplock holding original bags. I will always experiment with new methods, old methods modified, etc. It's in my nature! Quote
Super User bigbill Posted July 24, 2013 Super User Posted July 24, 2013 I was a messy tackle box fisherman. But fishing in the dark at night taught me all about keeping my tackle boxes organized. Now everything is in its place. I keep the plastics in there original bags but the used plastics go in zip lock bags.I do not mix the new plastics with the used plastics. I have a tackle box for each bait. One for topwater lures, one for shallow cranks, one for deeper cranks, one for weedless lures, another for plastics etc. My topwater and cranks are in the 9606 split top tackle boxes. I still don't have room for all my different lures so I rotate them often. When I go fishing there all with me. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted July 25, 2013 Super User Posted July 25, 2013 i organize my gear a few times a season. Being on a kayak at the end of each trip everything that is at my feet gets thrown into the crate for the next trip and until i get irritated at the disorganized nature it stays that way. At home i have everything pretty well segmented out in like groups. Now my fly fishing stuff is meticuously organized but it is a lot easier as flies doesn't take up nearly as much space. I usually have one box for topwaters, one for each type of streamer then one for bottom type baits. I always keep an extra empty one on the water too just so i can put the wet ones back in there while floating so i don't potentially rust out the rest of the box. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted July 25, 2013 Super User Posted July 25, 2013 How religious am I? I do believe in our creator. I see his work every time I'm fishing when the night becomes daylite as the sun comes up. What a wonderful world we live in. We are truly blessed. Just look around you when your fishing. God bless everyone, bigbill Do that I'm still I'll and getting better go out and nail some bass for me. Soon I hope to join you guys and gals. 2 Quote
powerduster Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I use to keep everything super organized and have all lures seperated, because I'd get worried about all the hooks scraping up the paint and all. The same thing with the soft plastics, I put them in plano boxes. But now, I just throw everything together, so now when I pull a lure out I got 3 or 4 tagging along. Quote
McFurie Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I got a big Plano stow away box stuffed with worms in there original packages Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted July 25, 2013 Super User Posted July 25, 2013 Soft plastics go in gallon ziploc bags in the packaging sorted by type. I keep my cranks, lipless and lipped, in plano boxes organized by depth. Buzzbaits I keep in falcon buzzbait boxes. Organized by weight. Jigs are kept in plano boxes organized by style and weight. Hooks and terminal tackle are kept in plano boxes. All the trays are stored in a bps soft bag, a enormous Diawa duffle bag, or stacked on shelves in my closet. I generally sort through everything after I get home from fishing. I also keep lures and tackle for other types of fish organized the same way. There seems to be quite a bit fewer trays for them though. Quote
CayMar Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I keep soft plastics in one of those spider wire binder things. I have a small tackle bag I use when I'm out and a couple Plano boxes at home. I am like Grizz. Everything is nice and neat until I go fishing. When I'm done everything is scattered around my bag and box until I get around to reorganizing. I usually do that one day during the week just to get a small fishing fix when I can't go out and hit the water. Quote
Dingah Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 i always keep plastics in their original packages, but i organize them by type (craws, trailers, senkos, trick worms, ect.) Quote
martintheduck Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 By just reading the topic, I was tempted to respond "I get REALLY religious whenever I hook a bass on treble hooks... "please god, let him stay on!!"" 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 25, 2013 Super User Posted July 25, 2013 Yes, everything is organized by type of bait. Yes, I keep plastics in their original packaging or plastic baggies. Yes, have crankbaits, jigs, pigs, spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits, topwaters, buzzbaits, lipless crankbaits, pointers, etc. in tackle boxes in both plastic and wooden (pine) drawers in my man cave. Still have problems finding baits every now and them but I usually come across them sooner or later. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 25, 2013 Super User Posted July 25, 2013 I will organize and check to make sure everything is in its proper place before a trip. I will do the same right after the trip is over. In between, not so much except for reel maintenance. Quote
