Drop Shot With A Twist

Anyone every drop shot and instead of using a weight used a jig and trailer (or a tRig) instead? My thought process is having 2 baits at different eye levels increasing more chances of a strike. Good idea/bad idea? Thoughts?

Have heard of that being done for years.   Not sure I ever tried it.   My problem with it is you are putting a lot of stress on a tag end of a knot with that bottom bait.

In my experience a shaky head works better than a jig. Fishing for spots down here we tie a few sun flies above the ds bait. It's a blast catching 2 at a time.

Yep. Been there, done that.

 

Never had any fish hit the bottom bait.

 

I have thrown a jig and pig and a baby brush hog (weighted) and nary a bite.

 

Some of the pros were doing this and BASS stopped it but I think it may still be legal in the FLW tournaments.

 

Give it a shot and see if you have better luck.

This has been done for a long time. Iv never tried it, but I have tried a double DS. Weight on the bottom as usual, with 2 seperate baits a few inches apart. I prefer a regular DS myself.

Yes as stated earlier it's been done for a long time. You actually can use a variety of weighted terminal baits. One of my favorites is a shaky head. I just think the way you fish it matches the DS technique

My partner throws a a ds with a jackel wackey hook with a senko on the bottom. I've seen him catch fish on both the top ds an the bottom wackey. Never thrown it myself but have seen it work. IMO decent it catches fish, but not somethin Im likely to tie on. all though.. .I used to say the same about the original ds till I broke down an tried it. So that oppinion is subject to change

I remember another thread on this topic. Some people mentioned that it was hard to tell if the fish is hitting the drop shot or jig and that setting the hook on the 2 techniques are quite different.

I have also heard of that being done with a c-rig.  Instead of a weight, you use a jig.

Now that sounds interesting. 

 

I never tried it, but the shakey head idea sounds like a better idea since it is similar in technique (setting the hook).  Well closer than a jig, but I guess you could use a finesse jig. Like another person stated, you wouldn't know which presentation they went for. 

 

The wacky rigged and DS sounds interesting too, but wonder how that would effect the lures on the fall.  There are a number of times my DS never gets to the bottom and I would have a fish on.  I guess only way to know how effective it would be is to try it out.

I think i just read about that idea in the bassmaster magazine, i havent tried it yet though
