I'm looking to start airbrushing my crankbaits. Any good starter kits reccommended would help. I'm looking to spend max $60 on one. Thanks

Do you have an air compressor?

With that budget you're going to have to find something used. Be sure to get a gravity fed airbrush for painting baits. It's hard to go wrong with Iwata or Paasche, though finding one at that price will not be easy.

Save your money until you can afford an Iwata revolution gravity feed brush.   You will spend 60 bucks on paint alone and the best paint for the money is createx.

Do you have a Michael's or Hobby Lobby in your area? If so, check your Sunday paper for a Michael's coupon that is 40% off one item. They carry Badger airbrushes, and with the coupon you should be able to get something decent.

If its a hobby lobby, you can pull up their 40% off coupon on their website, even on your smart phone. they carry some nice Iwata stuff....I just got an eclipse from there not long ago.

When I first began painting crankbaits, I went with the cheapest stuff I could find just to see if it was for me.  That was a $25 single action Badger starter kit that came with an aerosol can of compressed air, plus a few bottles of $2 hobby paint from Michael's craft store.  Something like that will at least get your toes wet before you dive into the hobby.  Nowadays, I use a tool compressor and have a couple of Iwata air brushes and a box with 50 different shades of airbrush paint.  It's one heck of a lot easier to use and learn from than the starter kit but I know where you're coming from.

I use Iwatas and they are the standard for quality.  I trust Iwata quality enough that IF I were going to get into a lower-price airbrush, I'd seriously consider the Neo even though it's not made in Japan like all other brushes in the Iwata lineup.

Look for deals.  Ive picked up a Paasche compressor at a garage sale for $5 in pristine condition.  Last week my wife brought home a Iwata double action Neo for $6 at another garage sale, it still had to $69 sticker from Hobby Lobby on it and the box was still factory sealed.

Its gonna be tough to find a kit at that price, and if you do, its not going to be a high quality setup. Harbor Freight probably has the best kits for the money. But I would save up and buy a GRAVITY fed brush like a Paasche or Iwata. Then you'll want at least a 15 gallon compressor and steel braided hose. You'll also need a MOISTURE TRAP so that you don't spray water that builds up in the compressor. As far as paints, start with some basic Createx colors. That way you can mix pretty much any color you want. I use a higher end Paasche brush. Most of the artists I know use Iwata, and yes it is the "industry standard", but I like my Paasche Talon. I came across a great deal on it a few years ago and its been producing high quality work for me ever since. Either way, you will save money in the long run and have a much easier time learning how to shoot paint with a decent setup. Good Luck!

I have an iwata i got about $300 in it, and i also have a neo, nee is not made by iwata.. its made for iwata.. they are a great airbrush for any level airbrusher. If you have a hobby lobby you can get online and print a 40% off coupon or pull it up on your phone. I bought one and have had it for 2 years and havent had any problems.

I dont remember how much it was exactly i think around 30 bucks?? That was after the coupon.

Createx paints are great as so is the wicked line of createx. Auto air is great too just a little more expensive even though its made by the same company..

Some paints come ready to spray while others will need to be thinned down. For brighter color spray a white base coat first..
