Drug Coder Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I was reading the Take It To The Top Part I article here and in it he mentions hand tying hackle to the rear treble. Does anyone have pictures of their Pop-R with said modifications? I have never dealt with adding hackle and am curious about the procedures and materials. Thanks! Quote

If you've ever tied flies it would be a cinch. You'll need hackle (duh!), a bobbin, and some fly tying thread, and I like to use a little nail polish to seal mine up. Just start with several wraps to lock your thread on, tie or the hackle, whip finish the end, and put a dab of nail polish to seal the knot. Quote
Drug Coder Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 no I have not done any fly tying. Does the hackle come in different lengths? If so, what would you suggest? Quote

Hackle is usually strung or bagged in larger sizes. You just trim off what you don't need. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_34511____SearchResults Here's a few of the tools to get you started. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_100438____SearchResults http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_47153_175004003_175000000_175004000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL A vice is helpful but not necessary. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_98228____SearchResults Or, you could do it the easy way... http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_52857____SearchResults Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 Honestly, if you dont have the materials to do it already, it would likely be cheaper for you to just buy a dressed treble hook from a retailer or online store. http://www.***.com/Mustad_Feathered_Treble_Hook_Red_Hook/descpage-MDTR.html http://www.***.com/Lucky_Craft_Feathered_Treble_Hooks/descpage-LCFTH.html http://www.***.com/Owner_Tournament_Trailer_Feathered_Trebles/descpage-OTTFT.html Quote
Bass Junkie Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 True...... But then you lose the ability to chose your colors..... Also, bucktail is a good tail material for other lures such as shallow cranks and wakebaits. 6/0 Thread, color of choice (Red works well) Bobbin (Cheap is Fine) Scissors (Should already have them) Hackle, to match lure Flashabou or Krystal Flash, to match or contrast hackle choice. Chartreuse is is good in tails because it glows like a 'Gill's tail. Notes: Tie in hackle tips, don't wrap it. Quote
